14 rounds.

Kahr PM9: 6+1 and spare 7 round mag
Most of the time, the same thing, but 16 rounds (P9, 7+1 & spare 8 round)

Other times, 6 in a .357 K frame snubbie with a 6 in a speed loader for backup. - If I were better at concealing something this large, it would be my primary carry. Even w/o the speed loader along, I feel very comfortable with 6 rounds of .357, and very comfortable with the way I shoot a revo.

Next stop ... a J frame.

"I get the,"heebie jeebies", about carrying it in any style other than OWB............"

You may have already thought of this, but it helped me. Put your G23, cocked with empty chamber, in your anticipated IWB (or other) carry holster, and then put your body through every possible contortion you can imagine yourself going through, then do it again. Up, down, sideways, roll, jump, bend, collide with walls, etc. After finding out that it is still cocked, and the pistol still safely in place, you may have a little more peace of mind. Of course, if after all this you still find the notion uncomfortable, I'll graciously take that G23 off your hands for a nominal payment.:D

First off I have never had a reservation of carrying a Glock with one in the chamber. Normaly what I carry as a civi is what is in the pistol.

Depends on the rig. When I'm on our property, I've got a holster with an extra mag pouch on it -- so one mag (15 rnds -- CZ75) in the gun and one in the holster. To be honest I usually don't have the mags loaded to capacity.

I've also got a shoulder holster rig with one of those "two mag" pouches. Probably way too much, but if feels stupid having the pouches empty....also, I agree with the poster that mentioned changing a mag in case of stoppage.

Depends on my mood

I almost always carry a compact with a double stack in a paddle holster, that generally make me comfortable. However, I have a Fobus double mag holster that I carry when in doubt. To some, that may be an issue, you know, be prepared and all. However I am confident in my abilities and my particular weapon. If .45 ACP, I'll feel good with a full mag, 9mm, if I'm going too far, I like at least one extra mag. Since I've only had my CHL about a year, I'm still working on my favorite handgun and calibre, so far I'm starting to lean towards .40 S&W as a happy medium of knockdown and ease of carry. I know a lot of guys like 1911 in .45 ACP and I am looking at a Kimber UC II in .45 ACP. So my answer is it depends on 1) weapon, 2) where I'm going.

Kimber Ultra Carry II .40 S&W
Springfield Arms XD-40 SubCompact .40 S&W
Taurus 24/7 .40 S&W
Taurus PT 745 C .45 ACP
S&W 915 9mm
KelTec P11 9mm
Colt .25 ACP (circa 1916)

No incident carrying my Glock 23 in the Sidekick holster...

I may have found a new favorite style of carry for when I can't conceal the paddle holster...

Thanx for the advice HadEmAll, I HAD thought of and tried it when I posted that, and I tried it again before I went out of course. Stayed in place just fine. As long as I do my part, it seems to do it's...Reholstering was interesting, to say the least, but I have always payed attention to this, after hearing a tale of a guy shooting himself with a Glock and a paddle holster. The draw string from his jacket bunched up in the hoster and pulled the trigger, ouch:uhoh: !

Depending on where I'm going.
Most of the time I have my G26 10+1 with a spare mag.
I also carry my 92F when I have to go into areas I feel uncomfortable with. In that case I carry 15+1 plus 3 spare mags. Overkill, perhaps, but like the old saying it's better to have not not need than need and not have.

15 rounds, 7 in each mag and one in the pipe, SA 1911 full size loaded, I generally just throw the spare mag in my off hand back pocket

Magazine fully loaded with a round chambered plus a spare magazine. When I was carrying revolvers six in the gun and a full speed loader.

I'm carrying a SIG 229 SW40 now so that's 13 in the gun and 12 in the spare. Yeah I know I'll probably not need all that but better too many than not enough.

Where do you guys that carry two extra mags along with a BUG put all your stuff? I'd have to make my belt pretty tight to prevent my pants from falling down to my knees carry all that. More often than not I just carry a Kel Tec P3AT w/ clip. IWB. I just carry it charged with six in the magazine. I couldn't imagine carrying my XDSC w. 2 extra mags, and my Kel Tec as a BUG. Thats a couple pounds of gear on my waist. I imagine driving would be rather uncomfortable.

jk,

I wear my pants up around my actual waist instead of my hips and I don't need to crank the belt down. Maybe it's a position thing?

When I carry my G23, 13+1 and an additional 13rd magazine ... total = 27

When I carry my 1911, 8+1 and two 8rd magazines ... total = 25

When I get another magazine for my witness 10mm, I will carry that with 15+1 and an extra 15 rd magazine ... total = 31

On a side note, 31 rounds of 10mm makes me happy.

46 rounds = a fully loaded mag in gun and 1 round in chamber, plus 2 additional fully loaded mags. I prefer to be prepared somewhat for a bad situation rather than face one pitifully unprepared.

carry gun is a glock 26, and i use the +1 pierce extensions. So i carry 1 mag in the gun, 1 in the chamber, plus a spare mag normally. Total of 23 rounds. If i need to travel to a known bad area, i'll take 2-3 of my glock 17 mags, and depending on weather and the kind of clothes i can wear, sometimes the glock 17 itself.

On road trips, i'll grab an ammo can with a few hundred rounds of hollow points, and load all my G17 mags up (9 total) as well. Overkill perhaps, but if i ever got caught in a out of town riot /shtf event (think New Orleans), i'd like to have enough to see me through.

If I carry the AR-15 pistol(PDW), I carry more ammo!

Atleast 60 rounds or more....And yes it conceals with the right clothes and climate, just trust me on this one;)

Generally 40 rounds (BHP with 13+1, and 2 spare 13-round mags). When I absolutely have to, I'll leave the extra mag, making it 27 rounds.

I think it would be awesome if someone set up a shoot house/course that was to be shot with the same setup that people carried. I think it would give everyone a benchmark to evaluate how much ammunition to carry. For instance, if all I have is a 6-shot snubby and no extra ammo, I may or may not make it through the course. If I have a fully loaded G17 with 4 spare mags, I might make it through the course with enough ammo to do the course again -- you get the point.

You obviously can't plan for every scenario, but you can be better prepared for more of them.

Wes

2 mags, one in gun, one spare, if carrying CZ75B then 30 rounds (empty chamber, by the law), if FN, then 40 rounds.

Full clips in guns, 7 in .380 and 8 in .45. Plenty unless going against a mob, then its not concealed :D, nor do I plan on going against a mob, the tiny chance much less than 1% probablility. Full extra clips in vehicle depending on location. Personally, for me only, I think more than the clip in the gun is excessive.

I'm always taken back how light some carry!

I never feel comfortable with just 1 or 2 magazines. If I'm going to carry, I will carry 2 guns, and ALL the ammo I can pack on my body. Then, the 2 back-ups, 1 on each ankle. The bare min. for me is 220ish rounds. The following is my MIN for Winter carry:

1) G17 X 6, 19-rounders
2) Warrior w/ 6, 10-rounders -or- XD-45 ACP 6, 13 rounders
3) Kel Tec .380 x 1, 7-round
4) NAA mini-revolver x 5 rounds

Add a mag in each of the pistols and you get a total of 220ish. Obviously, in the summer this is just not possible. Summer min. carry drops dramatically, just about 1/2 the amount. I LOVE Winter. :) Fortunately, in my profession, a briefcase is a must-use.

It is possible to bulk up MUCH higher if carrying only the G17 with 33-round mags. Just for kicks, and especially if using a briefcase to help. The absolute max. possible comes in somewhere around 850 with about 150 in boxes. I tried that one day just for fun, to see what was possible. :) It was HEAVY!

Given where I drive through to get to work, it's better to be prepared than not. Great thread---thanks,
