I was just thinking about all the prices of the "pre-ban" stuff and now some people may be kicking themselves for paying $130 for a used Glock mag or $1000 for a pre-ban Hesse AR-15 stripped lower receiver. I am not trying to pour salt on any wounds. I have done it myself, maybe we can all heal by getting it out in the open and talking about or feelings.

Anyway, I spent a small fortune on pre-ban beretta 92fs hi-caps, AR-15 hi-caps, and other stuff. When I look at the prices I paid, I look back and feel bad. I didn't go nuts and the hi-caps I bought were rather cheap by most standards. I paid $30 each for the AR-15 mags but I bought so many of them that it ended up costing a lot. I paid $40-50 for the Beretta mags and now I have seen new ones for less than $30. it could have been much worse. I never spent $200 for a factory Ruger Mini-14 hi-cap like some people did.

There was no garontee the ban was going away and if it were up to the cretins who run the blue states it would have been renewed. Keep on your guard they are still working to get more restrictions put on us law abiding serfs, er, citizens. :uhoh:

buys

I shamefully bought 25 , 25rd condor ruuuuuggger 10/22 mags in 1999 for 41 dollars each and 1 glock mod 23 standard cap mag for a glorius 100 dollars early last year.
2 of the worst deals i have ever done .

eh ehem , 5 14rd para_ord @$95 a crack , and 3 mecgars same gun @80 a crack the paras still have the factory plactic wrap on them and are in a drawer and 2 25 rd steellips mags for the 10/22 got those for 50 bucks for both .

You bought that stuff for emergencies, and didn't need them. You did have the good feelings that having them gave you, so you weren't completely without return on investment. You make the best decisions that you can make at the time, and they aren't always perfect. I am still surprised that the ban was lifted.

Paid $40 each for a couple of FML G21 mags. Other than that, I got through unscathed.

+1 to Gunpacker

You made your decisions with the info that you had at the time. If you paid those prices a year ago with the information that the ban was going to expire then you should kick yourself. If you paid them back when Sarah Brady was on top of the world then you might have gotten one hell of a deal if things continued down that path.

Those extra few rounds/eeeevil features might have saved your life if the S did HTF in which case they would have been worth 100x what you paid.

Now if you went overboard & bought 10+ hicaps for 30 different pistols then you should kick yourself. At the height of the darkest days I only bought them for the pistol/rifle that I would be taking with me if I had to bug out. At the time they were cheap for the peace of mind that they gave me (if not cheap for the wallet). The guns that would be abandoned (with critical parts hidden elsewhere) had neutered mags bought if they were needed.

I bought 2 NFML G22 mags, and 1 FML g23 mag, 50 each for the 22's, and 100 for the 23.

We can still sell this stuff to certain states for a premium can't we?

My wife paid $100+ for a Glock 19 magazine in 1996 or so. But it has served her well all these years since, so it wasn't a waste.

Not to brag, but I saw it coming at least ten years before,

and bought everything I needed at a fair price.

As Bob Dylan sang,

"you don't have to be a weatherman,

to know how the wind blows."

Not too bad. One crude but mostly functional no-name 20 round Mini-14 magazine, for twenty something dollars.

Other than the Mini, I don't have anything (yet) that takes "high" capacity magazines or have other evil features. Yet.

Nothing purchased overpriced. Bought a bunch of 20 rd FAL mags for 3 bucks a piece before the ban. Seemed to have mostly .45s during. ;) No hi-cap there. Didn't buy my AR til after it was over. Only thing I miss is an original mag for the G26 I bought during the ban. What was it 12 rounds instead of 10? Not crucial, but it would be nice.

Not a penny but I will admit I sold some hi-cap pistol mags at a
good price, at least for me. I sold them on auctions and did pretty good.

Think about all the money you have spent on insurance but never used. Do you consider that wasted? At least you have have something tangible to show for your effort/expenditure, even if it cost you a few bucks. Then again whose to say market conditions or future legal changes might just turn those investments into pure gold again. I for one have no regrets as I did not buy all those high caps and pre-bans with an eye toward a future sale. I bought them for me.

"I am still surprised that the ban was lifted."

Me too! I am glad but I am still in shock. Nothing ever seems to get better, everything just seems to become more restrictive. More laws, more taxes, ect. I am always surprised when something changes course for the better. That is one thing we can thank Bush for. He may not have done much for us in other areas but he at least did nothing when it came time to sign a new AWB. :D

I have never been so pro gun in all my life and I have been very pro-gun ALL of my life. Knowing the facts makes me feel even stronger about be able to own guns. You can't always call the cops when you need help, just look at what is going on in New Orleans right now. The cops have abandoned their posts and just walked off the job. I don't blaim them but at least if I lived there, I would have been armed when the gangs tried to loot or kill. Screw calling the cops, I'll just call on my pre-ban mags and assult rifle.

I bought my fair share of stuff pre and post ban and know I paid too much for too many things in the years between 1994 and 2004. The thing to remember is that if the anti gun forces (Primarily Democrats) come back to power on Capitol Hill and also take the White House we will face another ban. My advice, buy what you anticipate you need now.....2008 is not far away and no doubt the Dems are running the Hildebeast. I have not seen anyone impressive step up on the Republican side who will defend the Second Amendment. John McCain keeps getting mentioned and that RINO swine wants to kill our gun shows. :cuss: Tim

I'm still amazed at the amount of stuff that is still marked "pre-ban" at gun shows and still reflecting the pricing structure of the ban...

I usually walk by those stands and chuckle....

The only thing I bought that was pre-ban during the ban was two CZ-75 16 round mags for I think $30 each and a ton of dirt cheap AK-47 magazines. I paid $10 a piece for a bunch of 40 round mags in 2002 and here it is after the ban and I can barely even find 40 rounders and they are more like $15-$20 when I do. Luckily I've jumped on the 20 round bandwagon.

Worst I paid was $20 for USGI magazines. My first AR was a post-ban so that was normal price. I only bought 10 rd mags for my glock 23 as I refused to pay $80 to $100 for a 13 rd mag.

If I had the money, I would have bought a pre-ban AR and not have looked back. But I just could not afford prices starting at $1400 on up.

For those that really took a bath during the AWB, I would not stress on it too much. You got to enjoy the stuff you could afford. Simple as that.

As I always say...
An expensive bird in hand is better then a cheap bird in the bush.

Well, you know....something like that.

I know it bites spending $20 on a magazine that doesn't work... really glad I didn't spend twice that on a "pre-ban OEM Browning Hi-Power" magazine.
