How often do you buy a new gun?

I find that I will go months without a new purchase, and sometimes buy two or three within a couple of weeks of each other. I don't know if I go through phases or if the deals just show up at odd times. I regularly (at least once or twice a month) visit gun shops, etc; but unless I see a deal I usually don't make a purchase.

How often does everyone else buy new stuff and are you trading old stuff out or just adding to your collection?

I buy as the extra cash allows. If I am am making good money my firearm and ammo/components grow. When I don't I just stop cold until I can do it without hardship. So far I have not needed to sell anything but if I did I would do it.

I'm with you on the selling. I have never sold a gun I liked since I got a real job. When I was a young man, I had a rifle that I traded that I wish I had back. Otherwise, I only sold the ones I have gotten and didn't enjoy shooting.

Been about one a year the last four years. That's about all I can get away with. Before that, it had been 18 years. Prior to that period, it had been about two or three each of the three years from the time I turned of age until the 18-year hiatus.

I need to stop.

I've purchased two new and three used guns and a file cabinet full of ammo so far this year. Only sold one gun to purchase another.

Bought another one today and vowed to saved for the rest of the month. Honest.

Well after the gun show this weekend I'll stop, promise. :banghead:

I bought 4 semi-collectable Smith & Wesson handguns since January 1 and I sold 1 collectable and 2 semi-collectable shotguns to make room for them.

I find that except for a few "keepers" I sort of "rent" my guns:

Buy 'em. . .
Shoot 'em :) . . .
Sell 'em if I don't really like 'em :( . . .
Then buy some more.

Because I only buy used classic guns in good condition, except for the transfer fee when I take possession I usually just about break even.

I've only bought one so far this year but I just got a new job with quarterly bonuses so it will be at least 4/year from now on. :D Lucky for me the wife is fine with that as long as she gets an equal amount to spend. I figure that's a fair trade-off.

Never felt the need to trade or sell one yet but I'm really just getting started on building my collection. Plus I'm afraid I'll regret getting rid of something so might as well keep them.

I buy as the wife allows. Keeping her happy is the easiest way to get what I want. I've bought 3 since January, and I'm ordering my first Wilson Combat as soon as I figure out what I want. ;)

I just bought another Mosin on July 3rd, on my way to the shore to celebrate the 4th of July weekend. I figured it'd be a great way to "celebrate" the freedoms that are enjoyed in America.

I buy as money allows, which means rarely, as what I like are historically significant military firearms. My next purchase will likely be an M1 Garand, or a M1917 Enfield. Perhaps a Mk. I No. III Lee-Enfield, if I can find one.

These days, I generally see something I want, find something I no longer shoot, sell one and buy one.

I have two or three on my "want" list right now. I also have two or three that I can see selling in order to fund those purchases. But I am not in a hurry either way.

My firearms "buys" are down to about a piece a year. Spend most of my expendable cash on parts, components and leather.

I think I last purchased one five years ago. Maybe four. Just don't have that kind of disposable income right now.

I sometimes go HOURS without purchasing a new (to me) gun. :D

I suspect that I am now done for a while though because I'm out of buying power and have nothing that I am willing to give up in order to add to my collection. I would like to still get a Ruger SR1911 before the end of the year but they have not shown up in my neck of the woods yet (thankfully).

I buy as my interest ebbs and flows, available disposalble cash, and finding stuff that I am interested in. This boils down to a range of 0-6 per year. Last year I purchased no new firearms. This year has been different.

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't really want a MASSIVE collection really. Having to keep them clean and rust-free in the 100% humidity here, etc. I know people who have collections in the hundreds, which is awesome, but I'd rather limit to a more manageable size that I can actually enjoy. That said, I've still yet to sell a gun... :D

I'd rather spend that money on ammo, leather, etc.

I have only bought one new gun in a long time, a Marlin 60, except for my carry pistols. I am a curio and relic junkie......chris3

I buy maybe one a year. I haven’t bought any in 2011 and don’t plan to right now.

I have basically everything I need to do the types of things I want to do with firearms. There are a few areas where I’m not completely satisfied with my options and my purchases are mostly to refine those areas.

I don’t collect any specific type of firearm and while there are a number of firearms I think are cool or would be neat to have/shoot, I don’t feel the need to go out and get them.

If I had the space my next big firearms related purchase would be a reloading setup. I even have the money set aside. I just need to convince the wife.

I've inherited or been gifted everything I needed for my entire life, so I hadn't bought a new gun until last September. Now I've bought 3 including the one last September, one of which was a Christmas gift for my father.

I've got all kinds of ideas for guns I would like to buy now, but I am trying to limit myself to a once every 6 months now...maybe once a year. I have everything I "need"; everything I buy beyond that is just stuff for fun.
