I guess I'm in the minority here. My first gun that I personally owned is my SKS, that I got when I was around 18. Not the best choice for first gun, but I don't regret it. I bought it with high school graduation money. I probably should have gotten a .22 first, though. Oh well.

got my first gun at 14 mom bought it to make my dad mad, he said my grades were not good enough. I thank her to this day. Remington 870 in 12ga. It has been to mexico several times and I cant count how many dove and clay targets I have shot with it. I taught both my baby brothers to shoot with it. I have not fired it in years but now that my dad hunts I let him use it, but only after asking him if his grades were ever good:evil:

I was 23. Church group was doing a fun shoot and my friend was going, said something about bringing his guns (never thought about the fact that he and his dad had several) I decided to go. LAst time I was shooting was with the scouts at camp pendelton. He brought an sks, a .22 bolt, an enfiled, and a mini14. About a month later I bought my mauser 24/47... It's just snowballed since then.

i was 6, it was a little 22 single shot that my dad had used to hunt coons with, when i was 9 he got me a .30 carbine and a bunch of ammo that he had me shoot groundhogs off our farm. when i was 12 my folks gave me an 870 12 gauge and a beagle puppy. the rabbits cringed.

I turned 16 (Hey, this is back in 1964!). I had saved my pennies from odd jobs and bought a new Springfield 03A3. Within a year I also bought a new Springfield M1 Garand. See, I was smart even as a kid. :D

Want more evidence of my brilliance at a young age. At 19 (1967), I bought a brand new Colt Commander in .38 Super. :neener:

Okay, now just to show how STUPID I was... I sold them all.

Started shooting around age 14 in the scouts. Got my first firearm at 25. I kinda blacked out for a time... got a girlfriend, finished HS, finished college, got a good job....then, darn its time! Good to be back.

My parents weren't gun people. I got my first gun after I had moved out, had my own money & was able to buy one on my own.

Not a bad choice for a first gun. You can still learn to shoot with it and when you only have one gun, you want one with some range and power.

I was 19. Far too old, but some of us see the light before others. Browning Buckmark was my first, bought the sucker with my own money.

The SKS wasn't my first experience with guns. I had shot my dad's 9mm handgun and carbine before, and some other things that my dad's gun nut friend had. But still, the SKS kicked like a mule the first time I shot it, or so it seemed at the time. Now it's not so bad. I absolutely love my 10/22, though, that I partially paid for, my dad paid about half and I got for my 19th birthday.

I was 9 or 10 when i got my first gun, i'm 33 now, it was a H&R .410 single shot, my mom got it for me, i still have it today.

I was 18 when I bought my first gun, a Savage model III in 7mm Rem. Mag. I have only bought one gun since (XD-9), due to lack of money. My mom practically flipped at the idea of having a gun in the house, not because she's against guns, but for some reason she's deathly afraid of them. That nervousness went away when I bought the gun and brought it home. Then she kinda couldn't do anything about it (except yell). I know it was stupid, but it worked. :D

I was about a month past my 6th birthday when my uncle gave my brother and I a single-shot 22 rifle for Christmas. That was 39 years ago, and I still have it. There have been a few others since then that I can only WISH I still had.

First gun at age 9, a .410 sxs JC Higgins, First one I purchased age 16, a Hi-Standard Double nine .22 revolver with a 9" barrel. Too much Wyatt Earp and his buntline, just couldn't resist it. Still have the Hi Standard, the .410 was sold or traded for a .20 ga Belgium Browning. Still have it too.
News Flash. Bought a 1948 Ithaca model 37 16 ga. for my 5 month old grandson. He doesn't realize it yet, but he was born into a God fearing, gun toting, hunting and fishing family. PETA people cringe at the sound of my name. He! He!

Built a fuse fired brass cannon out of plumbing parts when I was 10 in 1956. It used match heads as fuel and worked somewhat, would put a slight dent in wood at 10 feet. Built a "zip" gun under-cover in metal class in 1958. A 22 shell, hollow threaded push rod, nut, drilled bolt, nail, spring, hammer and trigger parts, and stock. Think I got my first "real" gun in 58 too, Stevens bolt action 410. Had been useing some of my dad's and grandpa's 22s and 20 guages before that.

About 12 when I got a Crossman pellet gun, 32 when I bought my Hi Power.

I grew up in the city and my dad wasn't a hunter or a shooter. Got my pistol for SD/HD and shot it a lot a first then it sat in a nightstand drawer for a few years til I started shooting again and bought an SKS. It went downhill from there, according to my wife Now I'm just a hopeless addict. The object of my addiction is measured in grains rather than grams or ounces.

A Remington Semi Auto Speedmaster .22 still hangs in the basement 30 years later.

I was in possession of my uncle's Mosssberg bolt action single shot at the age of 8, but as soon as I got that Remmington with the high gloss and pressed reverse checkering, he got the singleshot back.

I got my first gun for Christmas when I was 16. A Ruger, standard, semi auto .22. The next year I got a Winchester .30-30.

I had been hunting for several years with a Savage, mod 24....a .22/410.

side note to Jackal- I have my Grandfather's Rem. Targetmaster .22 . I love that little rifle and don't know how I managed to get it( I have 58 cousins!)...several of whom have pointedly inquired about as to its where abouts! :neener:

Mark.
