21 years of age. Took leave from the service and went home and purchased a brand new Colt 1911 Series 70 Government Model 45ACP. That was 26yrs ago.

My dad gave me his .410 from when he was as kid when I was about 5. Got my first rifle shortly after, It was a m1 carbine. First gun I bought though was I think a Beretta 686 white onyx.

Got my first rimfire when I was 10, my first centerfire when I was 11 and started handloading when I was 12. That was a long time ago! :)

My mom was also afraid of guns, so my first gun (and hell, the first gun that was brought into my parents' house) was my M44 Mosin Nagant, which I purchased when I was 19. About a year later, my parents sold me their house and moved to NC, and now my collection is much larger. :)

Fortunately my mom isn't afraid of guns anymore. I managed to convince her that they are inanimate objects, and are not magical.

Springmom, sorry you had to miss many good years enjoying firearms.

I received my first gun on my 12th birthday.
It was a Ruger 10/22,still have and and still shoot the s*it out
of it.
That was 26 years ago and @ 150 guns ago.

Mine was a reminton 742 30-06 at 16. I bought it myself. I guess My parents wanted me to be a free spirit and do it on my own accord. That's not how I raise my kids nowadays. I ingrain them and give them a gun or two to start them off. Keeps the heritige going.

I was eight, we had just moved back tot he US (dad's retired USAF) and my uncle talked them into letting me join the junior NRA. Back in the early 60's we actually had a large number of 8-12 year olds that shot matches every Saturday morning. Can't remember the rifle now as 30 years ago I passed it down to my uncles first born. But it was a .22, single shot, bolt action, with a peep sight.

I love threads like this. Many great stories.

My first? A single-shot .22 rifle at 12 or 13. Savage, as I recall. (Stolen by a *#$% burglar many years ago.)

Now? FAL para, baby. "A real rifle in a real caliber," to quote Boston T. Party.

I was 21 years old when I got my first gun. My parents forbade them and that is the earliest my state would allow me to purchase a handgun.

The Smith and Wesson I bought when I turned 21 ought to show them just how I feel about that!

I was 8 years old. Took my Christmas and chore money to the OTASCO in Huntsville, AR, walked up to the counter and plunked down $19 and some change for a Springfield bolt action .22. This was in 1967, and there were no forms to fill out! (Boy, has the world changed since then... :barf: )

Springmom, I have you beat. How about 58, not counting the M16 in 1967. You're never too old, and God knows, we need to increase our numbers. From what I've seen so far, I'm the geezer!

My dad got me a Marlin Model 60 with scope when I was like 11 or 10, but all I did was hold it briefly, it's been in the case for 5 years. He promised to take me shooting with it multiple times, but I never got to go. ****, I want to shoot that thing. Looking back though I wished he had gotten me a 10/22 instead so I could buy like a jillion 30 round mags for it. I'll have to shoot it and see if I like it despite the tube mag.

My first gun I shot was a .38spl revolver at a gun range in Florida. My mom, despite being anti for nonsensical reasons, took me there anyway. I got to go again too and shoot a Ruger Mk. 1 pistol.

Just recently I got 2 antique Mausers from Centerfiresystems. The Gew 88 just needs a bolthead, and the Gew 71 is kinda FUBARed so it's a wallhanger. My mom doesnt want me to buy a bolthead for the Gew 88, but I dont think too much drama will happen if I do, but the bolthead is 50 bucks, and the extractor and ejector is like at least 10, and then I need clips for it, and all that stuff costs more than the 30 dollars I paid for the rifle.

My dad taught me to shoot taking me to the police range. He was LEO. But both he and Mom were not real excited about me having my own. He does not hunt or collect firearms. It wasn't until later I bought my own (Glock 22) and met my wife did I get to go hunting with her dad.

I was pretty young when my grandpa gave me an old Targetmaster Remington .22 single shot 6 or 7 I guess. boy that baby was dead on too. It was kept locked up for a few years after that. My dad would get it out when I had supervison untill I was 10 or 12 I guess. Probably a good Idea for kids now also. I also got a Willy's jeep with the transfer case shifter sawn off stuck in low range (15mph) when I was 8 with strict instructions that it was not to leave the ranch. I don't think it took 3 months before I figured out that the bottle jack handle would fit right down in there and put me in high range (45mph) and I was all over the country when no one was watching. thank goodness for thottles on the dash.:neener: I got my first shotgun when I was 11 a 20 gauge single shot I don't even remember the brand--Stevens maybe. I remember I didn't want a 12ga. because heck I was 11 and I figured they kicked harder than the 30-06 I had fired a few rounds through--I was chicken. Funny thing is though. A few years later I started shooting 12 ga.s and to this day I have never shot any 12 that kicked as much as that 20 did. I used to always have a black and blue shoulder through duck season. It must of been choked to the max and awfully light. I got a double barrel Baltimore Arms from my grandpa when I was 15 and I don't think I ever fired that 20 ga again. That old double barrel was a Cadilac compared to that 20ga. Several years later a buddy asked me if I wanted to sell my 20ga. he wanted something for his wife to shoot and might even start bringing her along--Considering what the rest of our friends thought about that and her charming personality--I gave it to him. LOL::evil:
By the way when I was in my late 20s I told my dad about the shifter in the Jeep. He laughed and said did you ever consider that I sent you to get fence staples and lemonade once shortly after you got it and I knew it was six miles home to the shop and six more back and you made it in less than half an hour:rolleyes:

Mother was really anti on antything gun related. She did relent and allow a BB gun when I was 16. My beautiful wife, turned out to be a bit anti herself, which surprised me because her dad was an avid sporting shooter back in the day.

Long story short, broke her down by explaining my safety plan (triiger locks, a locked gun safe, and a seperate locked container for ammo) at 31. Now I am 33 and have 6 firearms so far

7 yrs old. I still have it! Winchester model 67 with a Weaver K4 that folds to the side (Old Pachmayer mount) if you wish to use the irons. Then at 9 I got my first 10/22. Finally at 18 I bought my first 12 gauge (Mossberg 500 combo)
