How recoil sensitive are red dot scopes?

I went to the range today to sight in my .45-70. I recently put a tasco pro point red dot scope on this rifle. I got it sighted in for elevation, and when I tried to adjust the windage, point of impact began to jump all over the place. I checked to see that the scope was still mounted securely, nothing seemed loose, but it still was all over the place. So I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with a red dot scope and a rifle that recoils pretty stoutly.

I can judge more by red dots on my hand cannons .... they get quite a bruising! Overall they do seem to take punishment but - I am of the opinion that cheaper ones may be internally lacking in robustness and . also feel at times cheaper ones do not adjust precicely.

By which I mean - seems at times like a windage correction affects elevation ... and vice versa.

My handgun ones (both SRH's) are Millet ..and they seem good (so far!). Oh and on my BFR - a Bushnell Holosight - which also seems good. I think you do need a minimum quality factor - plus of course, a very secure mounting etc.

I have a Tasco Accudot (which I think is the lost cost version of the pro point) on my NEF 20ga. rifled barreled single shot. Been mounted for about 5 years now and I have never had to adjust it. It's a knock around deer gun so I have been really happy with it and it is "beer can" accurate at 40-50 yards

Hunting partner of mine has had the Accudot on a 12ga version of my gun above for about 4 years. He has had the same luck as I have. His dad has the Pro Point mounted to a Rem. 1100 in 12ga. The Pro Point has been mounted for I would like to say 8 years. That gun is an absoloute tack driver. It gets a 3 shot group run though it before deer season and is always right on the money.

Only thing I don't like about the Accudot or the Pro Point is that they eat batteries and on the high setting, the dot will "cloverleaf" almost and not be very sharp. Other than that, my deer hunting partners and I love them.
