Oh yeah I forgot

When I went to Ecuador;
I had to get a passport
a medical exam
letters from local law enforcement
pay a load of money (like $500 a year) for my visa.

then I learned the language, I could speak ok before I got off the plane, and fluently (better than US army translators by 6 weeks)
why?
Because I refused to speak english, even with other americans. By trying to assimilate I learned the culture and the language (I didn't celebrate 4th of july in public, that would be rude) I didn't debate Ecuador policy (wasn't my place) even when they elected Lucio Gutierrez a communist bastard that was later throw from office (buddies with castro too)

I ate what the people ate, even stuff most American would have back up. While I was there I assimilated, learned their national history, their important holidays, regional culture.

Basically, I gave a damn.

I Love America, I love the freedoms we have. But I kept that to myself while in another country because I needed to respect their cultures, languages, and borders. Now I just want people to respect mine.

I still don't understand why some groups came to America, and in 50 years shed almost all of their old culture and assimilated into the American culture, while other want to make American Culture change to their old culture.

I'm Polish and my family came over in the 1930's, some 70 years and two generations later I look, talk, and speak nothing like a person from my country of origin. If we get into a war with Poland, I'm still going to side with America. What get me is they have been PUSHING HARD educating us Americans on how to speak Spanish. Ironically I can speak more Spanish than I can Polish.

I do the first two at my house and my wife does the third....well, until she
hired a native born citizen (English is her one and only language) who makes
more off cleaning the house for two hours than I do at work sometimes....

I had some excavators out here last week --all native born citizens-- who
worked for a day and they're going to get close to $3000. I really hope they
spend the money back into our local economy and not buy some bulldozer
from China.

The people destroying America live right next door, shop at Walmart, and don't
care that our other neighbor's job just got outsourced to a new factory that
was built in [country x] by the big Partiya campaign contributor who has
just been assured of his coming tax break by his old frat buddy inside the beltway.

Look in the mirror and on the TV news --that's who is destroying America.

That's elitist crap.

I've been checking this stuff out for myself. The stuff at Wal-Mart is made in the same places as it is when you buy it at any other store.

Clothes? Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Dominican Republic, etc. Now go to the Gap, the Polo store, wherever you want. Look at the labels. I dare ya.

Housewares? Same stuff as I see at every other store, or from the same places as others. Sometimes that's China, sometimes it's the USA, even.

Come on, take a look. I did.

Wal-Mart is a nice limo-liberal pariah, because their target market prefers Budweisers to Lattes. The fact is, their lower food prices do more for the poor than food stamps do.

You're incouraging capitalism. So mom and pop can't compete? That sucks for them, maybe they'll get a job with benefits at Walmart. Crazy liberals in Komifornia are banning walmarts in their cities, claim it's "unamerican" to sell goods in a competative manner.
Kmart merged with Sears and now they are big enough to compete with walmart. I shop there often because their price are often lower than at walmart and they sell better tools, furniture (don't laugh), and clothes.
Get off your high horses, I know I just opened the Wal-dora's box.

Here's the thing;
People that arn't writing and emailing their representives are to blame
People that vote by party no matter who they are voting for are to blame
People that pick up Joe Illegal at the Homedepot daylabor center are to blame
People that buy oranges or flowers on the freeway offramps are to blame

But worst of all
Employeers who hire Illegal Aliens over American (especially in construction) are to blame.

People that shop at Walmart or Kmart or Sears are very American because those companies don't hire Illegal Aliens (but your neighbor does, boycott him)

Mom-and-Pop vs. Wal-Mart...

The fact of the matter is, whenever Americans can spend less on necessities like food, underwear, shelf paper, kids' placemats, etc., we spend the money on something else!

Mom-and-pop shops don't sell commodities. They sell specialty items (like guns, for instance). Small local stores here sell things like high-end cameras, musical instruments, quality fishing equipment, jewelry, etc. They also sell luxury services like pedicures and facials.

Whenever an American can spend less on a necessary commodity, he/she has some money left to spend on a luxury. Those luxuries are more likely to be provided by mom-and-pop stores than just about anything I ever buy at Wal-Mart.

When was the last time you bought a cheap undershirt or a pack of paper towels from a local boutique? Gimme a break!
