How to field strip a S&W 6906

I am an idiot I guess.. I brought a friends 6906 home to clean it for him and now I cannot get the slide removed from the frame!!! Please tell me how. I locked the slide back and pushed on the pin, so whats the trick??:banghead: Thanks to the wise ones.

The slide does NOT get locked back. You push/pull the slide to the rear until the notch lines up over the pin (on the lever), then push it out.

check empty
mag out
pull slide back until the notch on the left side is over the slide stop pin.
push slide stop out from right to left
then push slide forward off the frame.

My 6946 is my primary carry gun so I have done this a time or two.

Here is an easy way to get them to line up.
1. Take your right hand with thumb and index finger on each side of the back strap from the bottom back of the grip.
2. Take your fingers of the right hand on top of the slide and pull back to hold it over the notch.
3. Take left hand and push the pin out until you can grab the slide release and pull out.

You can do this same thing to get the pin in. Works great for any 3rd gen smith. Hope this helps.

The difference will be that you 6906 does not have a removeable barrel bushing. The barrel will lift out.
