I just bought a Howa 24" bull barrel 6.5 Creedmoor barreled action and am looking for a decent stock to complete my budget build. Would like to get started in precision tactical shooting.

So far, I'm looking at two Bell and Carlson stocks...

or

I'm also looking at a KRG Bravo chassis.

The non-adjusting B&C varmint/tacical would be the budget friendly move at $271, with the adjustable cheekpiece model being the step up move at $395.

Neither of these, of course, have the detachable magazine option.

The KRG, at $439, would bang the budget, but has both the adjustable cheekpiece and the detachable magazine.

How important is the detachable magazine to get started in precision tactical shooting?

I'm unfamiliar with KRG. Anyone have any opinions on whether they make good stuff.

Anyone have any other suggested stocks for a "budget friendly" rifle?

I can't help on what stock to get lrp isn't a game I've had the opportunity to try.

Howa/legacy sells a DM kit that allows you to use upto 10rnd mags in your Howa. They are proprietary, but I've got a couple of the kits installed on 700s (which they also offer, and are as close to "drop in" as anything I've seen), and they work well.
The whole thing is plastic tho so I'm not sure how much beating they will take. The mag latch is also in front and fairly small so quick swaps won't be as easy, or quick, as an aics system.

I have a Howa 1500 SA with a #6 barrel. I just went thru your dilemma. I looked at KRG but decided on a B&C. I bought this one. You may want a heavier one because of that long barrel.

I don't shoot competition but I do shoot from a bench. I haven't had it to the range yet but I like it so far. The thing fits like a glove and is solid like a rock. I think B&C is a pretty good stock for the money. KRG is probably a better stock for competition. I think B&C will work fine for LRP tho.

If the mag is important go for the KRG. I have both 10 shot (mini) and std 4 shot with floor plate. Honestly I wouldn't spent the extra money for a detachable mag for a benchrest rifle. 10 shot mags on sporters are nice tho.

Thanks, guys!

I think I'm going to need some kind of detachable magazine for the precision tactical game. I'm wondering if the factory plastic set up fits in the B&C stocks without additional inletting.

For stocks made for the 1500s they should be drop in or very close. I had to do some sanding on one 700 stock (Bergara actually), and the other went in fine with no modification.
The one that I sanded worked before sanding, but I had to yank to get the mag out because the sides pinched it.

My Howa 1500 .223 came with a lovely laminated thumbhole stock (don't know whose) and has proven to be a tack driver. I would consider one of these before you purchase. It's easily the most ergonomically comfortable firearm I have.

I have a Howa I’m tempted to put in an archangel stock. I’d like to fondle one in person before I buy though.

I'm running a GRS Berserk stock on my Howa 243 since they were first introduced in the US. Not much reviews at the time....but allot of reviews now. It's a great stock, might be little pricey for budget minded. But once you get into a quality stock with adjustability prices will go up.

I'm also running the KRG Bravo on my Remington...again adjustability is what I'm goin for...it is a great stock also

Thanks, LW. I really like the BC with the adjustable cheek riser, so knowing that the Howa factory magazine set up works is good information

Thanks. I'm set on a aluminum chassis or bedding block stock, however.

The GRS stock is interesting, but as you point out, not a "budget pick". Compared to your Bravo, is the GRS worth the extra money, IYO?

image.jpeg I think it is, for the fact that it has more quality built into the cheek riser push button adjustment and metal seating on metal for a solid lock up, compared to my bravo plastic knob and only secured by tension.
GRS has LOP adjustment with again solid lockup. Bravo has spacers for LOP adjustments though. The offset grip is awesome, at least for me . This video better explains the GRS
