Hey All....................

My brother is hot for the new Taurus 24/7 in .40 cal

I handled one yesterday in our local Gander Mountain and it felt pretty good in hand. This one wasn't a .40 though, it was a 9mm for $389.99

I am posting this to see if anyone has one, has shot one, has seen reviews on them, etc. We are quite sure he can get one at our normal dealer for less than Gander's $389, but we like to do our homework on things before buying.

Just curious about how they are. I know Taurus has increased the quality of their revolvers dramatically over the last few years, but I'm not so sure about their semi-autos.

Any input is appreciated.

All the reviews of them I have seen here and on Glocktalk have been pretty bad. Every owner I've seen comment on them have said they planned to sell their once they got it back from repair at Taurus.

Repairs?

Who has sent theirs in for repairs?

I had one for about 2 months but sold it because I didnt have a place in my collection for a.45 ACP DAO pistol.

Do a search for yourself here and read the range reports.

Man, I am on so many gun websites that I don't even remember where I read it. It was in the past week, and two different people complained about the gun.

Stay away from the 24/7s.

My friend's dad has one, it's my least favorite gun that I've shot out of my Ruger P345, a Glock 17, a Browning Hi-Power, and several revolvers.

The factory sights are crap, and we shot a box of really good quality ammo through it (Federal) and had 2 jams.

I'd stay away.

From everything that I've read, if you want a poly framed DAO pistol the Taurus 24/7 is worth considering.

Taurus has still not shaken itself loose from the quality issues they had when first appearing in the US. From what I've seen (from owning 2 of their guns & shooting a few more), the quality of what they produce today is on par with anyone else. But anytime a gun has to go back for warranty work, that old reputation comes to the surface again.

IMO, if the gun fits the hand that is going to shoot it & it is priced competitively then go for it.

I have not heard anything bad about them from anyone that has shot them first hand, other than the sight screw comes lose. I am personally waiting for them to go on sale here in CA, being that I am looking for a DOA 9mm.
