You are military personnel, DIA or MP, and you want a carry pistol. Since you can't carry HP's, you have decided you want a .45. You have narrowed your wepon choice down to one of two things:
1. Sig P220 Carry
2. HK USP Compact .45

Other - HK USP 45 or the new HK 45. Higher capacity mags vs. the USPc 45 w/ the same accuracy / reliability / durability necessary for military service.

What the government issues me as that's all I'm allowed to carry on said duty. If I actually had a choice, it would be a Ruger P90 or S&W 625. I'd be even happy with a leftover Government M1911A1 over the poll's choices.

a plain jane G21 would work great for anybody with decent sized hands but i think a G17 would be the most practical if it had to be an auto though i do agree with RevolvingCylinder that a revolver would be best like a 4" 686p

I'm trying really hard not to be the guy that comes in and says "NO, NO, NO!! YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG!!!!!" and ruins a decent thread.

That said, "want" (which you used twice in your post) does not belong in the same sentence as "military personnel." Neither does "choice." I can't suspend disbelief enough to imagine that an MP or someone else would be able to choose their own weapon.

You'll get issued either an M9 (Beretta) or an M11 (SIG). And you will get issued that weapon IF you have the rank/duty position to carry one and IF there are enough to issue you one. If you aren't going to a range or actively performing the duty that requires you to carry a weapon, that weapon stays locked in the arms room. Forget about using it as a carry gun.

You might be able to carry your own weapon if you are SF or something. I don't know, I'm not SF. But an MP or something, no way.

P.S. Also, what about standardized NATO calibers?

As an MP, you're pretty much guaranteed the M9(or in some instances M11) no matter the rank.

Out of the two guns that you have asked about, I would personally choose the HK USP compact .45ACP.

It's one of the guns that I regret selling and will possibly re-purchase down the road.

I believe that the MPs and DIA can carry hollowpoints while working on American soil.

I would go with the HK USPc myself but if we were allowed to carry hollowpoints I would carry an HK P2000.

Other.

1911. It was the right gun for the job then, its still the right tool for the job today when built as the defensive tool it was designed to be, instead of as the target shooter's toy most are making these days.

I agree with varoadking.. but I'd only take the wood if it was the issue weapon - if not, those grips are going in the safe and I'm stealin somebody's plastic ones :)
