OMG! I didn't even think about this thread but saw a couple of 92FS at a shop today for $675 new. I was |--| close to buying one. Is $675 ok? Maybe I'll go back.

I bought the Taurus instead. It was my first centerfire handgun I purchased in 1992 I think. I chose it over the Berretta at the time because it was $25.00 less and had a lifetime warranty versus no warranty on the Berretta back then. My buddy bought one at the same time also.

After all these years and probably 40 other pistols later between the 2 of us, We both still have them. I have put between 4000 and 5000rds threw mine without even one failure to feed or fire of any kind. I have swam the creeks and a lake with it, carried it through the swamp, and it just keeps going. My buddy finally broke his extractor a couple of weeks ago.

I have plenty of other fine handguns but I highly recomend the 92 series(mine is actually the adjustable sight 99 model with frame mounted safety and decocker). The last few years I have been carrying the .45's more often but when I hit the woods it is always the Taurus or a stainless Ruger .357 blackhawk.

I got a great deal on them. $550 for a pair of used Beretta 92s. For that price, I'd take less quality than what they offer.

I carried both the 45 and Beretta while in the Army. The 45 while on active duty and the Beretta when I was in the reserves. Now have both as part of my personal inventory.

Is $675 ok?

Depends on your location, but around here I believe the average in-store sticker price for a 92FS is around $550. Go used and you should get into the low 400s without much trouble. I personally wouldn't do $675, but since it's your money you get to decide what a good deal is.

I bought a brand-new, Italian-made, plain-Jane 92FS at a local gun shop last year for $499.00 out-the-door. Hard to beat that price for what you get with a Beretta 92.

Although I bought the gun for way too many reasons to post here, I voted "Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon," because I was 9 or 10 when I first saw that movie, and I was hooked. Almost 20 years later, I still can picture all the scenes from that series where Riggs wields that shiny black Beretta. Plus my Dad bought one of the first model 96's (.40 cal) and it was always my favorite gun to shoot, handle, clean, and stare at.

I bought the Taurus clone because of Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled
yes but I think you mean The Killer since he's got a revolver in hardboiled mostly.

Tony Leung Chiu-Wai with the Beretta here.

675 is a little high i think. Unless it was the Inox, then its a somewhat reasonable price. I got a 92fs Inox made in italy brand new for 600, but that was actually a little below cost (i guess my boss felt like giving me a birthday present)

as soon as i picked it up, i knew it was for me. it just fit my hand so well.

I always wanted one, and so many times I passed on them, or didn't have the money. I finally jumped on one on Gunbroker, with a bunch of mags (Six, all factory or MG), in nearly new condition, for $400! Has a couple of tiny nicks in it, and that's it. Came with 3 grips, the factory plastic case, and manual, etc, too. I don't know why it went so cheap, as identical looking ones went for $500 or more, with just one or two mags, and the seller had perfect feedback.

Like a CZ, a Beretta is top notch quality.

I carried one for 8 years with an agency, and have no problem
in doing so again.

However, compared to a Compact like a P-01, Glock 19, or SIG P229, they are large and heavy, and a pain to conceal.

Still, they are very reliable/accurate and forces around the world carry them on a daily basis.

I have a recruiter coming to the house tomorrow to talk about my son going in. :scrutiny:

That's why I bought the 92 and the Mforgery

I purchased my Beretta 92 as a reserve deputy, mainly because LASO and LAPD were using Beretta's. At that time the department I worked for had deputies carrying different weapons. I figured why go thru all two or three guns when LASO and LAPD have all ready tested it.

First gun I bought. Beretta goes the extra mile to make good looking, as well as good functioning, guns. I like that. They also seem to avoid the Browning tilting barrel principle for some reason.

And don't forget Neo's showdown with Agent Smith at the end of The Matrix: Beretta vs. Desert Eagle!

It was my first pistol. She was a joy to shoot and every now and again, I regret letting her go. I traded her in for a Stainless Government Springfield. I have NOT regretted doing that at all. I'm grateful for the time I had her, but I'm really greatful that she helped me get into 1911's.

It was my first gun and I thought it was sexy. I bought it used as a police trade in. It was a 9mm in good condition. It was a fair price at the time.
My results: Unreliable. Too large and too heavy and too few rounds (yes, too few for the size) for a 9mm by todays standards. Competitor handguns include CZ, which has models less expensive, lighter, smaller, and more reliable with higher capacity.

Can I vote for Die hard and Lethal Weapon? Honestly that gun feels like an extension of my hand. I bought a 92 inox brigadier. It's hard to miss the bullseye.

How about $290 for a police trade beretta 96 with 3 mags? Does this sound like a decent deal or should I hold off?

Back in the late 80s I worked the sporting goods counter at Wal-Mart, and I had people ask me EVERY DAY if we had any Berettas. This was back in the good 'ol days when Wal-Mart carried handguns.

Also, I looked for the 47 round magazines for the Beretta 92 like the ones John McLain had in the movie, and could never find them :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
