I was searchin thru another junk box at a LGS lookin for some more pieces parts for a project Hawken i recently aquired when the gal(owner), says..."got any interest in a .36 ?"
I say...brrrrring it out :)
She walks off as i'm diggin in the boxes and when i look up she's standin there holdin a rifle. Mmmm......
I think......this could be fun.
Then as she hands it to me and i start to recognize things like the shape o' the fore end cap. the patch box, trigger gaurd.
NO way, i never knew T/C made .36 Hawken !!!
I notice that the Bbl is a bit more slender than a .45 or .50 and i also notice that it's in like NEW Condition.
Actualy, i noticed the entire rifle was bit more slender than my .50 Hawken.
Bummer tho was that it's a cap lock :(
She says.."well".
I say that with the over blown prices of T/C's now adays i don't even wanna know the price.
As she's walkin away with it she says.."$600.00"
Never mind.
After i get home i git to thnkin 'bout it so i do some research.
1., it's a Bbl conversion to .36 from .45 or .50 and they suggest a price of about $450.00
2, it's a Renegade and VERY RARE and should fetch 'bout $700-$800
I've got to go back this week and see what the patchbox is shaped like and if the outside flats measure 13/16's or 15/16's.
According to what i read online these are the determening factors in what it is and what it's worth.

Anyone familiar with this rifle and have any info to add ?

TC used to make two small caliber half stock rifles, the Cherokee with no patch box and the Seneca with a patch box. The Cherokee was a .32 and the Seneca a .36 and .45. I'm guessing you had a Seneca in your hands. I don't know the price but 600 seems a bit high.

I used to have the Seneca in 45 and yes they also made them in 36. I agree that it sounds like the Seneca, and also agree the price is high.

Thanx Chawbaccer and mnrivrat. I'm tendin to learn t'ward the Seneca also. It was a bit of slim rifle in the hand.
Do either of you fellers got a guestimate on a more reasonable price ?
I'm beginin to think i may 'need' this little .36er. :)

I have seen senecas sell for around $400.00-$450.00 on other sites. I bought a .32 cherokee for $300.00 in excellent condition.

Cherokees will command a premium price. $400 is not out of the question for a good condition specimen.

There is a like new Seneca .36 on Gunbroker right now that is up past 600. I think the smaller calibers in both rifles bring a premium price.

I can believe that Chaw, but IMO, gunbroker only serves to drive prices on firearms way over what they're actuly worth.
I, and a few LGS's in my area refuse to subscribe to the 'values' on that site.
I'm thinkin o' goin back to this store and layin 4 Benjamins on the counter and see if she bites.
( she tends to over price her merchandise anywho)
I sure wish it were a flint tho and not a cap gun.
Mmmmm. i have an xtra T/C flint lock. Wonder if a 13/16 flint breech can be found mmmmmm.....

three TC,s, top .54 renagade,middle .50 hawkin,bottom .45 senaca. eastbank.

FYI. I have a pair of Seneca's, one in 32 and the other in 36. It is hard to definitively state just what TC made, and in what cals. Much better handling guns than the Hawkens and just plain fun on squirrels.

I can't argue that PapaG,That .36 jist felt good in my hands.
Looked jist like a Hawken, but dang, it sure felt a sight better.

Naaa..her prices are way high on everything.
'cides, i bot Janet a new laptop instead.

After i sell all my pups i may still go and plop 4 Benjamins on the counter and see if she bites.Allthough. I'm thinkin that she's thinkin that she has somethin 'special' with the way she keeps it in the back room and all.

Hi All !

The .32's can be fun on Fall Turkeys too! I have a Cherokee that I wanna use the 103Gr Maxis on Turkeys this Fall! I usually use 30Gr Pyrodex P with a .315 RB & .20Pillow ticking & Butter Flavored Crisco! or T/C's Nat Lube 1000+

Both the Cherokee and Seneca are harder to find in superb condition than a Ruger Old Army. In recent years I had a Seneca that was brand new in the original box along with some TC accessories for it that included a TC round ball mold. It only had a little spot of rash on part of the fore stock where it must have scraped against concrete or something abrasive.
A single bidder bought it off Auction Arms for about $600 shipped which wasn't much more than I paid for it. I was told that it was purchased for a teenage girl who was going to compete with it in a national 4H muzzle loading championship. I was glad to sell it because I've got other .36 rifles to shoot and I didn't really want to be the first person to shoot it.
I also knew a fellow that had a Seneca for sale that he hardly ever fired, and the figure of the wood was so marvelous that it would have made your eyes pop out like this! -> :what:
Whereas most of them have a very plain, non-figured walnut stock.
One Father's Day some years ago I watched a used Seneca sell on eBay in 2 parts (stock & barrel) for about $800+.
But some folks who are really lucky have been able to find one at a good deal.
