I can't find any primers or powder locally. I ordered small and large Wolff Primers from Weidners and W231 and Unique powders from Midsouth. It's worth the fees to keep shooting!

I gave up...buying locally. Even with S&H and HAZMAT charges ordering from PV is much cheaper than local dealers.

I would go with Powder Valley and Graf's. They are both really good companies and sell far below local and other Internet prices. Powder Valley has the best deal on powder and Graf's has the best deal on primers. Buy in bulk. Even with the Hazmat and Shipping fees, you will come out ahead of local and other Internet stores.

I don't know what is going on with the rest of the country. My local dealer that I buy powder and primers from has always had what I needed. True he doesn't have as large a supply as normal, but I have never left empty handed. One dealer here is out alot, but my main dealer always has them. Have I just been lucky?

If you put your location in your profile, someone might be able to point you to a little known local source. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions. Just a tip.

I have never had any problem finding W231/HP38 or Clays and the price never changed.
Primers were non existent for a while but I found 10,000 at Midsouth and they were reasonable even with the shipping and fees.
Now my local shop is getting primers in but they have the price at $39/1000 and I can almost do better online.
It is getting better every week.

My local dealer has been out of powder and primers for a long time. It's been hit or miss.

I have bought powder and primers locally, but at $5 for CCI's and $30 for a pound of 231.

Some gun shops are worse than the guys at the gun shows with the 25 yr old boxes of ammo with the stack of price tags piled on 1/4" thick. I dont think price gouging is right whether its double priced generators after a tornado or ammo after an election !!
PV,Graffs are both great to deal with IMO. Higher priced wolf primers are out of the question !!

You guys had better get used to 39-$40.00/1000 primers. The brass that goes into them, the primer mix made from chemicals, have all risen in price. How would you like it if the primer companies said, "you don't like the price we charge, we'll stop making them"!

I don't mind a bit paying 39.95 at my local gun shop, it keeps him in business. Same goes for powder. I hate paying hazmat, AND waiting for a mangled package from Up yours PS.

Interesting? $40/1000. I hate to break this to you but I am still getting them for under $28/1000, retail at a local shop. This shop has a policy on guns and ammo of cost +5%, they move a very large amount of merchandise, they refuse to sell to dealers, so as to keep stock for those using instead of profiteering, they currently have a 1000 primer limit, unless they have known you as a past customer, then it's 2K. As long as they are selling at such prices, I am pretty sure it's not a mfg. rise, but your dealer making some sweet margin. Their price has went up $6/1000 in the last year. I don't have a problem with them selling at what the market will bare, as long as they don't try and bs into blaming the mfg.

I've seen prices of up to $50/1000 over the past year in some shops. At the gun shows I've seen prices as high as $80/1000 and just a few weeks ago they were still trying to get $50/1000. (no one bought)

My local shop is selling CCI primers for $29/1000 and powder for $24.95/lb. I know what his distributor is charging and those prices are a small mark up from his price. (only 15%)

When I saw prices climbing over a year ago I started buying extra primers/powder just to try and save some money. Little did I know I was making it possible to keep shooting over the past year. I stopped buying when powder hit $21.95/lb and primers hit $23.95/1000. (except for buying 2000 CCI #34 primers last month)

If you have to buy online because you can't find product or fair prices locally try and put together an order that will absorb the Hazmat fees. I would suggest trying to get a few friends together and making a group order. If you have to buy alone 2X 8lb jugs of powder and 5000 primers will spread the Hazmat fees to $1 per pound of powder and box of 1000 primers.

Local dealers have been able to provide primers for a higher but reasonable cost through all this for me. last purchase was 2K CCI LP for $31 per 1K on 11-24-09. I can save some on the internet but will support the local dealers as long as they don't attempt to gouge me. I was rummaging around a local gunshop's used brass and found 122 primed 308 brass. Sold to me for $6!! :D

Wholesale wise CCI are the cheapest primers except BR2/4, then Win./Wolf, Rem, and Fed. Then Fed GM primers.
There have been large suppliers out their taking advantage of people, too....Bruno's

People will whine all they want. It is all about supply and demand. We have the stores and individuals that have taken to profiteering.....

People have to pay for lights, insurance, put food on the table for family, and well......if you can no accept that well open up a biz and see how it works for you.

Just looks BHSS they gave up on Federal primers over a year ago because of irregular supply.

It is not just the reloaders.....it is the fellows that buy ammo....
when the ammo companies aka primer producers get caught up and such there will be more primers.

Then you have the theorists that believe that black helicopters are hovering over their homes.

Most everyone online is "out of stock" on primers now, except for Wideners. They have Wolf primers at $29/1000, and $140/5000.

I'm stocked up on primers, and Bullseye powder for pistol. Now if I could only find more WIN 748 for the .223. :scrutiny:

LMAO! $40/1k... I don't think so.:D

Did the smiley face mean you were kidding?

I trusted my always shaky memory when I posted that. Actually I paid $34.00/1k at the gunshop. The 40 bucks was what they wanted at the gunshow a couple weeks ago. And only one there wanted 40 bucks the other two wanted 50!

Gun show prices are NOT indicative of real world prices. Even some gun shop prices are not "real world" prices.

And "real world" prices on all of our gun related hobbies are winding down from their highs. Thanks goodness for that!

Amen, Brother. A friend who owns a local gunshop once told me he loves gunshows. Guys go in, look around and get the fever. Most will come by his shop and cross-check prices. He rarely gets undersold.

I have some large rifle primers from when I used to reload. I gave my brother in law my equipment. PM me and I will sell them to who ever ask. Name a decent price and they are yours.
