You have witnesses.

You have a club member who will back you up that what you did was perfectly okay.

File a formal complaint against this jerk.

Find out the formal complaint filing procedure for your club and file.

it seems like you explained that the number on the target was on the target board proper and would have been covered up by a paper target. It was not a separate and distince number board meant to be a permanent shooting station marker.

I suspect that your gun club member was just a school yard bully allowed to grow up and get old because natural selection took a vacation during the late twentieth century.

I usually laugh in the faces of jerks like gis too. Only ever had one get under my skin...

Shooting an open 100 bird flurry. We're all joking around, and I slip two shells in my O/U a couple times. RULES say "only 1 shell at a time", but I've watched lots of others break the rule... and we were only shooting this one for fun anyway (not score). One of the "in" people of the club steps out as we finish up, and starts screaming at me about the rule being "only 1 shell"...

I had just rapid fired that 12ga through about 50 shells... was so pissed, I didn't feel the heat of the barrel when I took it apart to put away. One of my teammates pulled it back out of the case to keep it from melting the foam...

Did I mention that I RARELY shoot at that club anymore?

The old man might have been a little over the top, but I probably would have questioned what you were doing also. Once you spend a few weekends rebuilding/replacing target stands because some members prefer to use the legs of the stands for targets rather than pieces of paper, you too might wonder what a new member shooting at a blank target stand is up to.

please read all of the posts! i was shooting at what I was supposed to be shooting at just no target. THE TARGETBOARD IS WHAT YOU STAPLE YOUR TARGETS TO!!!!

Even if so there was no need for him to be an ass about it. There are ways to go about things. I certainly would never raise my voice at anyone holding an AR.

I did read them. But if a club member sees you shooting at nothing discernable downrange, they might assume you are shooting something that you are not supposed to. Like I said, at my club there are a few people that are nothing more than vandals with guns, but at least they are shooting up the range equipment instead of street signs.

Don't get your shorts in a knot, I'm merely playing the devil's advocate here, and I've been on the other side of the fence cleaning up after thse who don't respect our club's property. I don't doubt your story one bit.

Absolutely right. What I do with mean people is grin ear to ear like some sort of person with mental problems- it usually makes them more mad, but they will eventually leave you alone without upsetting you too much, and surely you aren't implying that you would shoot some one for hurting your feelings and using foul language towards you;)

One jerkwad in a club doesn't make them all the same, but if youstart to see a pattern I would try to find a shooting range sans @holes. When I go to club meetings, it looks like old geezers night at the club. There are only a few people in the club that are my age or younger, but aside from a few rambo wannabes, everyone is pretty cool.

We have a gun club here like that. If you don't shoot a deer rifle, skeet gun or target rifle you are a lowlife to them. Funny though that there is always a ton of assault weapon brass on the ground when I would go up there.... Anyway, one day the guy who CONTRACTS to do bore sighting came out to throw me grief for shooting a semi. A fairly expensive one at that, but it was an assault weapon none the less. I was not shooting rapind fire, not throwing my brass on other shooters, or doing anything that would be considered bad form or unsafe. But it was an assault weapon and the nature of the weapon made me evil.

So he came out and read me the riot act about how people like me give all "other" gun owners a bad name. He also said people like me should not be allowed to shoot up there and I should leave. After a total of 5 rounds that day, I had had enough. I went to the club house and explained what happened and got my money back.

I did not get really mad while I was there, I got mad later. While I was there I stuck to my mantra. "Don't get mad, get even."

So it took me a while, but the next time I went up I made sure I took a bolt gun. I got to the little building he had on the range where he does his zeroing and ask if he minded if I set up right next to him. He didn't (and luckily there were no other shooters around, otherwise I would have felt badly) and so I did. The 4lb muzzle brake stuck out past the end of the building, and right in front of his little window about a foot. The first shot caused a few alarmed screams from inside. By the time they recovered I had the second shot off. That caused more screams and the door came flying open and he came out asking rather loudly what was going on just as shot three went down range. Poor ol' guy was one who thought that just cause he was at a range that he didn't need ear plugs when he was sheltered in his little building (at the time I was completely unaware of this, but I don't feel badly about it at all). And he didn't have them in when the third .50 cal round went down range from under the covered firing line.

He was not happy, and recognized me finally. That made him even less happy. I was none to humble when he started to read me the riot act again and I pointed out to him that the rifle was not an assault weapon, he told me to set up there and he was responsible for his own hearing protection.

I left as persona non-grata at Holiday Gun Club, but I not only got even for his piss poor treatment of me and the other "evil" gun owners, but I also made the point to the owner that this guy was costing him a bunch of business for his treatment of younger people who shoot modern guns. And their business sucks anyway, I wonder why.

My point here is that it is not always the best idea to get into a battle of wits and yelling with someone who is half equiped for such a fight. But listen to them and they are bound to give you something that will allow you to have a bit of fun with them.

Local gun club

Black 92 LX, Go to [www.maimirifle-pistol.org] and if you think you might be interested, let me know. I`ll give you a tour and if you join I`ll get you checked out on the 600yd range (even if you do shoot a mouse gun, LOL)
The only question is, do you tell Henry Bowman also, or keep him in the dark ? (smile). Regards, John Deere

John Deere thanks for the offer. I am definatly going to check the place out. Have been offered the tour from a fella on Sigforum as well. Bu always love to shoot so two tour will work for me.

I think Henry Bowman will probably stick with FSA. And be my guest at Miami. I think he likes them trap fields too much to break from FSA. also believe it's a little more convienent as well. Where as it's 6 of 1 and half a dozen the other for me distance wise.

I’ve never heard so much whining. Also a lot of complaining about older people, as if they are the only ones that are A-holes. If you felt insulted and demeaned why didn’t you open your yap and do something, or say something, instead of whining about it after the fact?

Probably because going to jail for beating said a-hole into submission on the spot didn't seem to appealing?

Escalating a confrontation with a bunch loaded weapons sitting around isn't a good idea.

Holy Cows! We have something in common, i get the stink eye from old crusy men at my range too lately even though ive only been there for a week or two, and they make really rude comments. I drive a 2000 mustang and i only payed like 11,000 for it.

"The first shot caused a few alarmed screams from inside. By the time they recovered I had the second shot off."

By gosh that'll show 'em who the adult in the crowd is.

John

Yep, Those bigbores usually reinforce the hearing protection thing.............................................I get "looks" just for shooting a .44 magnum fercrissakes. IT'S A GUN RANGE! I am usually very polite to men with guns. All I can do is hope that some of it rubs off on the unhappy ones. ;)
