Just got back from the range. Last week I couldn't shoot because they were redoing the banks (its an outdoor range) so I was looking forward to going today. When I get there I had to wait on a guy that was out on the range with a girl showing her how to shoot. You're not supposed to be past the wooden barriers and I told them so because me and another guy couldn't set up our targets and shoot till they came back. Of course they fussed but left right after that.

Then an older gentleman came by and was walking around me picking up my brass so I stopped till he walked off. He went down to the end of the benches and then around to the other side of the barrier so he could get the brass over there. He walked all the way down to the end where I was. I stopped shooting as soon as he went around the barrier and was just sitting there watching him. He makes it around and I get ready to fire when he asks me what I think about the war! I'm too meek to say "go away" so I listen to him fuss awhile about what he'd do if he was the president (a lot like us:D ).

Well he finally walks back to his car and leaves. THEN a car with two women and a little boy pull up. The boy gets out and starts to use the bathroom on the other side of the car while one woman stands nearby, maybe the kid's mom, I don't know. The other walks over to me with no "ears" on and starts talking about my SKS's banana (sp?) clip. She tells me she's coming back with her gun to shoot some, too.

They leave and I finish off the rounds I've brought and I leave, too. My groups sucked after that.

</rant> Sorry guys, just had to vent.:rolleyes:

BTW: The new steel guide rod from LTT helped muzzle flip a lot. I was worried the skeletonized hammer wouldn't get good primer hits but shouldn't have worried about it at all.

At least you went to the range. I haven't been in 2 weeks & I'm going crazy because of it :banghead:
 
Shooting on public shooting ranges leaves a lot to be desired. Same goes for clubs. I am thankful that I can just go out in the desert and shoot. I can shoot at what I want to, check my targets when I want to, shoot as far as I want to..................
I stopped at the gun club on the way home from work this morning to check out some loads in the Schmit-Ruben K31. There were two other guys shooting on the rifle range. So, I had to wait until they had a break in the action so I could walk down range to set up my target. This is my own fault, but I don't have a spotting scope. Since I was shooting an iron sighted rifle at 100 yards, I had to wait to see if I was hitting anything. Then my target stand blew over in the wind and I had to sit there for about 10 minutes waiting on them so I could retrieve my target stand and go home. As I drove home I was thinking about how I should have just taken my portable bench out in the desert and shot. This isn't without it's flaws; the bench isn't as steady. I have to carry all the stuff out to the truck and set it up. I don't have good measurements of the range I am shooting. But, I always feel like I can get more done.
These are just things we will have to put up with as long as we don't have the resources to assemble our own range to shoot on.
 
I acctually find some company at the range fun. Get to shoot the breeze with them between the acctualy shooting and stuff. Of course I shoot at a private club that 99% of the time is empty. I have only ever seen a total of 5 diffrent people there. Heck I emptied all the brass containers yesterday and at least 70% of it was mine.
 
Hoooo boy, do I know how you feel, cool9mm! It's hard to concentrate when somebody's in your ear.

There's a guy that shows up at our range occasionally, and he always sets up next to me. Then he starts in chattering all the time I'm trying to concentrate on shooting. "Boy, nice day, eh?" "So, how do you like that Kimber?" blah blah blah.

Everytime he shows up, I start thinking about that scene from Goodfellas where Joe Pesci sticks an ice pick in the back of the guys head and says "I thought he'd never shut the ____ up."
 
The way to solve range-talkers: Take the left-most bench, and bring your HK or AK. :D

How about the other side of the coin..

I keep to myself and many times I don't like to be bothered by annoying people.

But if someone wants to admire my guns thats ok. I've met some jabber jaws but they are friendly enough to let me shoot their guns.

I got to fire my first Ruger vaquero .44 mag from a guy who wanted to talk about guns.

If they get really annoying I just insist that they try out my 629
to see "if the sights are off" heh heh

I will from time to time compliment someone or say "wow nice group"

The only thing I can say that really ticks me off is the old man who says:

"what the heck you gonna hunt with that"
" no son you are doin it all wrong"
" You call that a group?"
" why in gods name don't you sell all those junk guns and buy a
Kimber"
 
Plumes of white smoke that inevitably follow each discharge of black powder also reminds folks of more important matters. A cloud of white smoke that lingers because of windless condition tends to discourage folks. Also use lots of lube on those revolvers lads. Some folks don't like all that grease flying everywhere.
 
I find it distracting when I'm trying to sight a new gun in or something of that nature. Then I usually have a business look on my face so if somebody keeps talking to me I ignore them and eventually they go away :D it's not my fault they're standing right next to me picking up my brass with no ear plugs :D

But if I'm just there to screw around then I don't mind talking. Hell half the time by talking to people you net free stuff. :D Got three boxes of .22lr stingers several months ago and a box of Winchester .357 SIG the last time that some dope had bought for his S&W 586 :rolleyes: :cool:

It's also fun to impart knowledge because then people can't stop asking questions.
 
Damn, my hearing must be worse than I thought. Time to make another appt. with the ear doc.

By the time I plug 'em and muff 'em I can barely hear the big bore rifles.

I'd love to be able to hear what's being said next to me on the line.

I like to go and be one with the gun. I don't like to chat it up either. I don't mind folks talking during cease fire and hanging targets, but when folks are on the line, don't distract them.

That's why everyone needs a CZ-52 and a Mosin Nagant Carbine. BOOM! :what:

On the other hand, if you are practicing self defense tactics, maybe you could consider the distractions as a little extra stress thrown in there.

Wow! Count me in. I got a ticket at Resaca for being there 15 minutes after closing. I had not shot in 30 minutes either, I was packing up.

Can you give me the name of the WMA it is in?

If that happens again, just pull the trigger every time they start to say something. One of two things will happen, they'll stop trying to talk to you, or you'll run out of ammo and it will be time to go home.:evil: :neener: :evil:
 
Aw man, people just like to rub elbows with others of the same ilk. Kinda like going to church and fellowshipping with other beleivers. New friends, free stuff, knowledge, and imparting a good image of gun people all follow being friendly. The people with newbies with them...I give em space and help if needed. I fixed a double feed on a kids shotgun last time up, his momma seemed very impressed that 'one of those gun nuts' was willing to help (my choice of words).

Life's too short to be snobby and impatient with others, it lacking in class. I also carry extra ear plugs for those not bright enough to bring some for their kids and sit down next to me while I'm trying out some new big boomers.

Lighten up people!:p
 
Just be glad you have an outdoor range. My closest one is almost two hours away!

In other words ... I'd trade you places anytime.
