I have succumbed ....to the panic....I bought an ugly rifle...yes...I am picking up an IO, Inc side-folder AK-47 on Monday (the only new one I could find at a RELATIVELY cheap price!). Trouble is, the gun store was out of all 7.62X39mm ammo. No problem I thought, that stuff is common as dirt and it should be easy to find.

Not so.

My local Walmart is out. I have searched all of Dothan AL and couldn't find any.

I had to drive to a gun store way off to pay too much for a case of Barnaul.

I thought at some point, the panic would end and things would get back to normal, but I'm starting to think it could get WORSE!

Consider yourself lucky to have got an AK rifle. Don't worry about 7.62 x 39 ammo, you won't find any. Even here in Texas, the shelves are starting to go bare.

Hold out for a few months brother. You deserve to get a couple cases of surplus at a good price for making such a wise decision.

Check with all the online merchants.

finfanfanatic: Is it a regular WASR or such?

Hostile Amish: If it is a WASR, there are many still in this area, and probably because of the high prices on the stickers.
As for being lucky to get an AK (clone) rifle, there were five lonely WASRs at just one small gun store right by I-40, about 30 min. west of Nashville last week. It had some Bernaul x39 ammo, at a scalping $8/20! No thanks.

Yesterday there were several at the Memphis/Germantown gun show.
Most seem to list for about $550. There was also at least one Saiga .223.

There was a lot of 7.62x39mm ammo at the gunshow in Glendale CA a few weeks back. It's still available, you may just need to look online or find a gun show.

i went to Natchezss.com to post a link of their ammo prices. when i saw that they too are pretty much sold out on 7.62/39 i threw up in my mouth a little... even ammoman is out.... :-(

check these guys out, theyre good people

i remember one of the reasons i first bought my AK clone was because how nice the $3 price sticker looked on a box of 20 rounds, which was merely back in 2006...

Picked it up today

I am new to AKs....

It's built (or put together) by IO, Inc.

And it is a stamped receiver. Does that mean it is a WASR?

I disassembled it and gave it a quick cleaning this evening. Quite a bit different from my ARs.

I will be taking a trip to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots.

Every place I talk to has ammo on order, but apparently, the wait to fill orders is taking forever.

Not a WASR if it has a "dimple" just above the magwell. Second picture looks like the flash is reflecting of the dimple.
Looks like an ak-47c with the galil type handguard.

Congrats! The more "evil" rifles in the hands of good people, the better. As for ammo, we are still in the throws of the obamanation and ammo will be hard to acquire for a while.

Buy what ammo you can...even if it's only 20 rounds at a time. Use ammoengine.com to find deals.

Back from the range

I'm back from the range. Fired a little over 100 rounds through the AK47. No recoil to speak of but the muzzle climb is wicked. And this trigger is gosh-awful.

Still, after a mag or two I got the hang of it.

The rifle shoots about 12 inches to the left at 100 yards. The rear sight is not adjustable for windage that I can see.

Any suggestions on how to fix the sights?

on my mossy 702 the rear sight just pushes left and right. does it not do somethin like that? anyway pretty nice lookin gun. when i get an ak and hopefully itll be soon but after the craziness has subsided. i think im gunna get a lancaster with the tan finish with the single side fold and the side mounting bracket. who knows though might be a little while. till then ill just have to get more trigger time with the AR.

All sight adjustments are done on the front sight. You'll need to get a sight tool to move the sight side to side and of course the front post screws up and down. The sight tool has both adjustment tools, and sells for about $9 or $10. Copes or Apex should have them.
