Sorry to bring up this topic again but I love to hear stories of young revolver users being approached by auto pistol users at a range or otherwise.

I had a man come up to me and ask me if I was shooting a judge (b/c I guess that's the young person revolver to buy) and I had to tell him :no, that's a S&W 686 6" (he didn't know the diff.). I was shooting pretty tight groups.

I love the revolver and plan to carry one; anyone have stories of either being approached by surprised people or people attracted to your wheel gun?

Well, I'm not exactly young at 26 but still I am in love with revolvers, I enjoy reading stories of the avg, user my age not understanding revolver use.

Do you like DA revolver best or do you also like SA revolvers? I like all revolvers and shoot more revolvers than I do anything else, including rifles. I'm a SA revolver nut and if I had the cash I would own at least 6 more that are on my "want list." (especially a 1872 Open Top)

I like both and try to fire both ways when I go to the range! I had a friend who had a simply nasty single action only .45 long colt, lots of fun!

I was never a fan of revolvers but slowly....The bug bit me and Im looking into a revolver. Im looking at a .357

There is just something about them that draws you in. Very hard to let go to

I know what you mean, I understand that everyone tells me .38 is cheaper, but I cant stop shooting .357!!

If (yea, right, more like when) I get a revolver it will either be a 44 Mag or similar hunting caliber, or a 1800's replica cap 'n ball. Maybe a 357 Mag. Maybe all three :D But that will be a ways off yet, my desire to have one is rather low at the moment, behind the 5.56 semiauto and the shotgun. Once I get those I may start looking.

I also have my sights on a .44mag after I get a not obscenely light .357 (M386 maybe?) for CCW. I'm a big guy so eve 40oz is not a big deal.

More boom is more good. Caveman speak.

I do love my autos though (about 8 more than in sig) but I cant shoot anywhere near as accurate as my revolver.

IMO a .357 Magnum is a great choice. You can practice with light .38 Special ammo and when you feel the need you can carry full power .357 Magnum ammo. What's not to like?

One of my favorite guns is my Smith and Wesson 642. At first, I couldn't stand that gun. I thought it had too much recoil, and I couldn't hit anything with it. Every time I go to the range with it, I notice the recoil less, and I shoot a little better groups. Either I'm getting better, or I'm unwittingly buying lighter loads.

I love the old wheelguns. I've always liked them, but then last summer, I went with my dad to visit a friend of his. He's a WWII vet, and his gun collection may not be large, but a few of the firearms are absolutely beautiful. He let me handle his Colt SAA (New in box, I think he said his dad bought it in 1895, never been fired.) Now, I'm in the market for a Blackhawk, either in 41 or 44 magnum.

They are kind of addicting, aren't they?

Agreed, I just knew it felt right from the first time.

Buy some Snap-caps and practice daily on reloading.

You will feel like a badass in less than 24hours haha.

Also, I'm no expert on this pistol. I just bought it 3 weeks ago but have shot about 1,000 rounds through it. I <3 it. If someone does not like them, more for me :)

BTW Fiocchi 142gr .357 is an amazing thing. GREAT ROUND.

Well, I'm not young but I've only been shooting for just shy of 3 years. I was all about the semi autos until I tried out a 4 inch Model 19 just for something different.

That led me to buying my first, but far from last, revolver. A S&W model 19 with 6 inch barrel. I'm now at the point where I'm pretty sure if I add 'em up that I have more DA revolvers than I do semis.... let's see...... Well, actually it's even up if I don't include the bunch of single action wheelguns I have for cowboy action in both cartridge and cap and ball black powder replicas. If I include them it's hugely revolver oriented.

That's what I'm talking about, they are just something special.

I'm absolutely confident that when I pull (hope to never happen) my gun on someone, They see the confidence in my eyes and I see the fear in theirs. That's why investing so much practice in my revolver. I want to say "yeah that over there, I can hit it".

I just need to buy my CCW revolver as 6" Barrel is too much until winter under my 3/4 Trench Coat.

I bought my first revolver about 6 years ago, and I actually don't remember the exact reason why I settled on buying it; probably because I like guns that shoot "against type" (autopistols shooting "revolver cartridges" and vice versa, or handguns firing "rifle cartridges and vice versa), and I like stainless. So the idea of a steel Smith & Wesson revolver that fired .45ACP wasn't a hard sell, except for the pricetag, but I ended up with a lightly used 625 and now feel smart to've been lucky ;) Of the handful I own, that might be the last I'd give up.

2d revolver I bought only last month, also a Smith (from a THR member), and it's more conventional (blued, .38), but there's already a 617 on the horizon. (One day would like to help spread the wealth to Ruger or other companies, too -- I wish the rumors would pan out, and Ruger would introduce a double-action revolver in .22LR again.)

I also love revolvers and I used to be young (34). I started out with revolvers, went to semi autos, and came back to revolvers, now half of my collection is revolvers. I have S&W's 686-1 , 19-7, 12-3, 642-2, 638-3 and also a Taurus 905 9mm revolver.
I still like semi-autos but other than 1911's, revolvers are the only handguns that "move" me.

Look through any firearms publication and the Judge is likely the only revolver you'll see an ad for. It would be hard to find a gun magazine that lacks a Judge ad. With the exception of a few ads by Charter Arms, I can't say that I recall ever seeing any ads at all for DA revolvers. You surely know Charter ads where a hot young blond holds up her lavendar snub nose that is apparently a fashion acessory. (She really should go with a black gun as we all know it goes with everything.:))

How old was this man who managed to mistake a .357 for a Judge that has a massive cylinder to accomodate .410 shells?

It does seem that young guys are expected to shoot Glocks, and look upon revolvers as something reserved for really old guys like their grandfather.

I've only been shooting for a couple of years and I like revolvers. I'm 38, but still relatively new to shooting even if not all that young. I have a GP100 stainless 6", so substantially the same as your 686. Evidently, I'm old enough that it doesn't look out of place for me to shoot something other than a block of black plastic.

He was probably 20-30.

It was actually funny b/c he was teaching his GF how to shoot and after my first group she let out a yell and challenged him to do better. He didn't like that too much as their target was swiss cheese.

I'm 25. Does that qualify as young?

I love revolvers and I'm on the look out for a Colt Python and Colt New Frontier.

I suppose you can't get anymore "old" than a single action revolver.

I'd sure love to pull out a 7 1/2" barrel Peacemaker and see what all my Glock shooting friends think.

My only revolver right now is a Smith & Wesson 442 (without the internal lock). Not only is it practical to conceal carry, it's also a LOT of fun to shoot! I'm surprised how accurately I can shoot the little gun.

well, I am anything but young, but I do catch quite a few compliments and questions re: "what is that ?" at the local range, and not because I have any special shooting skills, which I certainly do not

saddens me just a bit that so many shooters these days just don't realize how accurate any decent revolver is, the ranges they are accurate out to, and for that matter, how quick they can shoot, even in the hands of a clumsy old fool

We do have some some real decent autoloader shooters at our range, but the majority are awfully impressed with hardware, yet cannot seem to keep their rounds in a 9" paper plate at just 10 or 12 yards, and not speed shooting, either

I was 21 when I got my first handgun, a NIB 4” S&W Model 19. I can remember the old guys at the range muttering over it when I first brought it in. I got a lot of comments like, ‘they don’t make em like that anymore’ and ‘where did you get your trigger work done’ (it was actually just the excellent factory trigger) and ‘it’s nice to see a young fella who appreciates the classics’.

Sadly, I don’t see many people shooting full-size service revolvers at my range, young or old. It’s all black semiautos, rimfire revolvers, and the occasional snubnose. Sometimes I feel like the odd man out being the only one out there blasting away with a .357 magnum.

As the current IDPA SSR and ICORE Classic National Champ, Josh Lentz is the current Top Dog among speedloader-fed revolver shooters - and he's a young'un - 27, I believe. As a USPSA GM, he ain't too bad with a moonclipped gun, either. He's got several vids on YouTube worth watching.

Most people don't get to see a good revo shooter at their local IDPA match, and that's too bad, because it's usually pretty eye opening. Their surprised looks suggest they just saw a magic trick. :D

Those interested in shooting a revolver in our area are fortunate, as there are often a couple Masters and half dozen Expert level wheelgunners at local IDPA matches, and we all go out of our way to help new ones or anyone else interested in giving one a...ahem..a "spin". ;)
