I notice now most of us older guys (50+)

Anyone who believes that a 15 round semi auto is a supreme advantage over a revolver has never stood behind Jerry Miculek. Not many guys can even reload their semi auto as fast as he can reload and empty his revolver. I didn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. (this was long before Youtube kids)

Buy a 9X12' tarp. You'll catch 95% of it. Either stake it down or put an ammo box (or a rock) on each corner.

Trying to picture what the typical range would say if I staked a 9x12 tarp down over...under...next to their benches. Probably, "go home."

Drail's suggestion is seen at some matches. On a club range probably wouldn't be a problem as long as it wasn't impeding others' shooting space or creating a hazard.

I like the topic, but it is a lame revival of an old megathread by a new poster. Maybe we could start a new one

If there isn't room to use a big tarp then ask about hanging a big piece of mosquito netting next to your position. At least then all the cases will hit it and fall to the ground. I used to do that at a few ranges and it worked pretty well.

Understandable Generation Gap (Not Necessarily Bad)

I'm an older guy, and used to prefer semi's (we called them auto's then), to revolvers. I've have about half of each in my "collection".

Some auto's (oppps!) semi's, I trust better than others. Most of my malfunctions were with autoloaders, therefore I "generally" trust revolvers more. I usually CC a J frame, but also carry other options (including some semi's).

I think the 1911 is great, but not a preferred CCW.
A S&W Model 10 is by my bedside (no, I'm not in a nursing home "yet").

Use whatever you have found to suit you. Still keep an open mind (remember I used to prefer semi's to revolvers). Don't feel you have to defend your choice of HG's. Shoot what "you" like, no matter your age, etc., et al.

I still like both !:D

I'm 44 and like both. Have more revolvers than autos.
I don't need a brass catcher for my revolvers.
Being a handloader, retrieving my empties is important to me.

60 here; a WC CQB and a LB Premier II both in .45 ACP; three USFA SAA in .45 Colt. I love my revolvers but was forever christened an auto man from carrying a 1911 during the last three years of Vietnam - it was my sidearm and I trusted it - it was loose and well used but it always went bang when I pulled the trigger. I became partial to the 1911 during my service time and it became part of my DNA. I have no logical reason for my preference; it is sort of an emotional connection for me. Never went on duty or to the field without it - it was and is a good marriage for me. Good shooting!

perfer revolvers to high cap auto's....I was talking to some kid at the range
next to me who could not under stand why somebody would pay as much for
5/6 shot Ruger vs his Glock 19.

So you insult the kid by saying he can't shoot. Sheesh.

So what? We're not Jerry and he carries a semi-auto. Carry a revolver because you WANT to carry a revolver AND you have confidence in/with it. Let's stop inventing reasons to use the revolver over the semi-auto. We all know there are two, possibly three, primary reasons to use a revolver: 1) more powerful cartridges, 2) stocks can be made to fit the hand perfectly (though this has been reduced with the introduction of fully customizable semi-auto grip inserts) and 3) physical limitations prevent proper operation of the semi-automatic pistol. Secondary reasons include: not chasing brass, long brass life if loaded properly, long barrels (with resulting long sight radius), and more weight for absorbing recoil from powerful cartridges.

Here's my revolver...and none of this wimpy 35 caliber garbage ;)

I carry a 1 7/8 .38 snubbie as a bug. On qualification days they want to know what I intend to do with "that". I just say "watch". Always goes boom and puts holes in target where they count. They're great "get off me" guns. I have an LCR bug, and a model 36 for off-duty. The .38 special +P beats their .380s all day long.

Have about a 50:50 split in my collection.

Have always loved revolvers.

When trading it's usually an auto that goes.

Love them both but if I had to only have one.......

Nah, couldn't do it.

They all have a place and they all work pretty good in my view.

Few favorites.

Just beautiful.

Love it

My first gun at 21 was a 586. At 40 I carry an auto but still like revolvers. It's hard to pass up a Commander with an extra mag for carry. If I bought a revolver again it would be a 4" version.

Hi, I have been reading the forum a while and am glad to see so much revolver content. I am 42 and trade guns way too much, my revolvers are never traded. I have a Wiley Clapp GP 100, S&W 442, and a S&W 15.

When young, I spent a vast amount of hours watching television. The largest proportion of that time was watching movies made during the sound era of movies. So many crime dramas seemed to show some character using a slim Colt automatic. During that time, there was also a plethora of WWII movies. Obviously, the 1911 was commonly on-screen.

Thus began my emotional attachment to the sleek semiautomatic pistol.

Despite the ubiquitous westerns all over television, both in reruns and new, I never became enamored of the revolver, although my first centerfire handgun was one.

I'm sixty-one years old and fortunate to own several pistols and a single revolver. I guess I don't fit the profile.

I'm 62, and own both semi-autos and revolvers. I like them equally well, and especially like single action revolvers. Being a handloader, not having to chase brass is a definite advantage to revolvers.

I carry semi-autos when I carry, but I have on occasion carried an old Charter Arms .38 made by the original company.

I probably could not pick between the types, and thank goodness I don't have to pick.

Had to wonder if tomrkba ever shoots it and with what ammo. Maybe that's an old picture.

The stocks were received from Herretts in August 2014. I took the photo immediately after installing them.

I do shoot it, but am careful with it. I shoot Speer Gold Dot 200 grain JHP, CCI Blazer 200 grain JHP, and moderately charged reloads through it.

Slightly off topic but your pictures are nice. What type of lighting did you use? I have a tough time lighting high gloss firearms.

Daylight on an overcast day works great.
