I recommend using a guitar case

Consider the Thompson Violin Case from Auto Ordnance. It is "is specially designed to carry a weapon in a concealed manner": the foam is precut by the manufacturer for the gun. It also has keyed latches so it is sufficiently lockable to prevent the owner from using it to defend himself from an attack, which should delight Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shumer, Michael Bloomberg, and others who deplore the life of ordinary people. In fact one might say that this case is intended for firearms owners who are anti-violins. And I believe that if you squint you might think that it resembles Michael Moore in silhouette.

I was at Gander mountain in houston the other day, and they had a brand new .45 semiauto thompson with a matching violin case like the one robert has pictured. They were asking about 2 grand for it.

I sometimes carry my Bushmaster or my 870 along with a handgun in my Fender Strat hard case. I never get a second look.

Two Grand? I paid half that at - of all places - Dunham's Sporting Goods, here, in Michigan.
I was tempted to get the "violin" case pictured above, but that was another $150 I wasn't prepared to pay. It came with a nice molded case anyway and I wanted to use the hundred and fifty towards the 50 rd drum magazine... sweet.

I did that for a while. The problem I had was that the hard case become rather flimsy when I took out the "guts" to add egg crates.

I still have it, but haven't used it in some time.

I would use a guitar case. Only problem is that they are pretty bulky (the hard cases).

I have found that one of those sleeves that comes with folding camp chairs is pretty nice for concealing most of an 870, with the stock hidden under the seat of my Blazer. Looks just like a $5 chair from wally world is laying in your back seat, and the black synthetic stock is hidden under the seat, blending in with the black carpet, with maybe a jacket thrown over it.

I keep lots of spare ammo in a camcorder bag, also hidden under the seat. Has a divider, with one side buckshot and the other slugs.

If I was carrying a weapon into a dorm or apartment, I would use a guitar case, though...

Amen-All the California refugees should leave it behind. I will be jumping ship soon. Once I graduate. I think I'll be headed to Ohio. My sister is headed there from Tri-Cities, got a job promotion. I think it'd be nice to move near family.

How about a surveyor's pole or tripod hardcase? They're usually 'safety orange' and anyone tooling around with one could reasonably be assumed to have construction equipment - and they're sturdy, generic cases.

I'd also suggest just a plain canvas carry on luggage bag (a larger one) in which you could easily put (at least) pistols in ther individual hard cases and ammo. Combine that with a guitar case for long guns and you've got yourself enough transportation for a day at the range and an easy way to transport 'em.

I started tossing my AR into a hard case for a bass guitar, but I decided against it in case I got oil or grease from the gun into the case (I still use all of mine for guitars, too). I picked up a Fender gig bag for a little of nothing and have been using it since. It's not big enough for really long guns, but carbine style or folding stock rifles fit nicely. I need to attach some straps in it to hold the gun in place, though.

It's good only for pistols, ammo, and range gear, but I use this Craftsman tool caddy. It's darn near perfect. Holds six cased handguns, and several hundred rounds of ammo, and small tools and accessories.

And if you're at a match or what not waiting for your turn, you can sit on it like a stool.
