"I shot him. ...I can't believe I did this..."

I really do not see a tactical problem with what he did.

From the limited information I get from the story, he is basically removing someone from his property. Since he was assaulted, he is getting plate numbers for prosecution.

Running a business you cannot allow yourself to get pushed around or succumb to threats. If he wants to stay in business and make a living at it, he must be somewhat confrontational to aggressive customers.

If strategy and tactics means that a store manager/owner must cower behind closed doors fearing confrontation, I quite likely am in the wrong forum. There is more to life than breathing, some of it involves making a living and doing the actions that you need to do so you can.

In addition

I really do not see legal problems with his 911 call. I do hope his store does have internal and external video cams so hopefully the entire altercation was captured. This would make determining guilt a bit easier.

Was the shootee shot from the front or the back? That would be an absolute deciding factor for me if there was no other evidence but the he said/she said.

yeah, if the transcript was accurate, I didn't see it being that "condemning" either...

Maybe it's one of those presumption of guilt/presumption of innocence things...

I have zero problem with the store clerk carrying a weapon.

However I happen to know the family of the deceased. So I have already hard the story from their point of view.

Yes the kids were running wild and they were asked to leave. Yes the father got stupid and pushed the clerk while he was trying to get the 4 kids out of the store.

The left the store and he had just buckled one of the kids into a car seat when the store clerk came outside and approached the car. Apparently to get the license plate number.

He saw a gun and raised his hands and stated "What are you going to shoot me now?"

The store clerk then shot him in the chest. Killing him in front of his family.

I am more inclined to think

the store owner is in the right, even if cousins story is correct
what you gonna do,shoot me

imo it shows that the Pope guy is your typical dumb ghetto dweller.
Having lived in NYC ghetto's I can tell you that they are full of Popes.

The store owner had every right to stand his ground, but while it may have been a justifiable shoot I doubt that he was the kind of guy who thought out tactics and such.
imo good shoot but poor decisions.

I bet you the relatives have learned not to advance on guys with guns taunting them to shoot.

troll alert

However I happen to know the family of the deceased. So I have already hard the story from their point of view.

We here at thr have "hard" from your ilk before, sure you know the family, and I know Vladimir Putin and have coffee with Paris Hilton:barf::barf::barf::barf:

Sorry not a troll and I do know the family.

When I first heard the story and I still feel this way.

Pope was wrong in how he conducted himself. No if and or buts.

Daring someone with a hand gun was stupid and uncalled for.

From what I was told he was carrying a child when it all started. The store clerk got in his face and told him to get himself and his kids out of the store.

He told the clerk to get out of his face. Both of these guys are\were young men who decided to stand their ground. Pope pushed the clerk and got his kids and left the store.

Again he had just put one kid in a car seat when the clerk came out of the store.

Pope saw a gun and made a stupid comment, basically daring the clerk to shoot him.

I personally don't care one way or the other. I only came to this thread to get more information and basically say its not all black and white.

This is one of those cases were there is enough gray to go around.

So your troll comments are unwarranted, and are a true sign of a troll.

Since I have gotten the info I wanted good day.

Gunsmith- I really hope you do not have a CCW because Reno would be in serious peril.

I was taught in my CCW class that you have a right to shoot and kill anyone who taunts you. If their family is there then not only do you have the right, but are legally obligated to kill him. NOT!

I will abide by this forums rules not to engage in name calling, but with posts like yours, it is really difficult.

I still can't believe some of you are defending the store clerk. Oooooo you guys are tough because you have a CCL and Ooooo Its my right to shoot someone who taunts me. That doesnt mean you can be stupid and not use judgment.

The Store CLerk was is a moron and this was not a legit shooting. Fair and Simple. Obviously if the guy said "What are you going to do? shoot me" The Store Clerk already had his weapon out. That was a big mistake.

RubenZ, they are defending the clerk for the same reason you are attacking him: they are letting their prejudices and biases outweigh their ability to reason. No one knows what is exactly going on, yet everyone is happy to declare the truth. You give full credibility to anything that tends to incriminate him (including anonymous postings on the internet) while disregarding anything that might exonerate him.

After what the mods have emphatically stated concerning the main thrust of this thread, I calculate that it will soon be shut down if we don't focus on the aftermath of the shooting rather than arguing over whether or not it was a 'good shoot'.
Just a hunch...

Far too many here that are paralyzingly afraid of a physical confrontation.

My opinion is that a CHL holder, if capable, has a moral responsiblity to have some level of empty hands ability.

Oops, posted in the wrong thread. I agree with you in this case, Thumper.
