But which one? :uhoh:

G26: I like the G26 based a tiny bit of range time with a friend's, I feel the 9 is fine, and it would offer a decent bump in firepower over my Taurus 709

G29: I LOVE the 10mm cartridge, but is it that useful out of a short barrel?

I don't want a .45, unless its a .45 Super.

G27: don't all of these go out with a Krakatoa-like KaBoom? :D I don't really care for the recoil characteristics of the .40.

G33: I dont know anything about the .357 SIG other than its more or less an obscure, hot-roded 9mm in a .40 case, do they even sell this model in the US?

thoughts and opinions welcome!

JMHO -

The G29 is bigger than most folks think; won't carry nearly as well as a 26/27.
The G27 is fine if you like the 40 S&W.....I don't.
The G26 would be my pick of the 3. 9mm is cheap to practice with, using a quality HP bullet/load you don't really give up much (if any) to the .40 and follow up shots, to me, are much easier with a 9mm when talking sub-compact CCWs.

YMMV

BTW, you hardly lose anything when shooting 10mm from a 29 compared to a 20........75 fps +/- I think?

I really like my Glock 29 but 1) If you don't reload you wont be able to take full advantage of what the 10mm is capable of, and, 2) While I've chronographed bullets a lot faster than a .45 would hope to achieve, I don't think you can realize the potential of the 10mm in a sub compact.

On the other hand, it shoots FBI Lite .40 loads with a lot less snap than full size .40s and is still easier to shoot with more powerfull loads. I have no idea what you may give up shooting .40 S&W in a subcompact.

G26: 9mm is good enough in my eyes for self defense. It is also very cheap which allows me to practice quite a bit more.

g27: I wouldn't worry about kabooms unless you are a sloppy reloader. Speaking of reloading, I don't so 9mm is cheaper for me to practice with. You can also get a 9mm barrel and practice with your 27 as a 26, but I'd rather practice with similar loads that will perform similarly during practice (in both POI and recoil).

What he said, although it is concealable in shorts and a tshirt with a good IWB holster IMHO...but the 26/27 take up less space.

So yeah, I carry a g26. I prefer to carry my 19 as I shoot more comfortably with it, but I have no issues carrying the 26 when the 19 is too bulky. If you could borrow a friend's and carry it, I would. The 26, 27 and especially the 29 aren't as carry friendly as most people expect. You still need to dress for the gun. All of those 3 are light enough (IMO) that they are barely noticeable in everyday wear, but they are bulky so you do know they are there. It obviously isn't bad enough to make me go looking for a pocket pistol since I wear the 19 (mostly) or 26 daily.

This has been my experience as well. The baby glocks are great guns, but I would strongly consider the glock 19/23 as well.

The Glock 26 is the "KING" of subcompact 9mm..

It is one of the best sellers that Glock offers and for many reasons.

I voted the 26,but prefer the 27 personally but I dont have issues with the recoil,I did own a 26 and is was a darn good pistol.
I also dont find it hard to conceal a baby Glock The right holster and possition and it conceals as well as my PM9 which rarely comes out of the safe.YMMV

I love my G26. It is everything a subcompact pistol should be. It shoots like a much larger pistol. I cannot shoot a smaller group with a G19 and only a marginally smaller group with a G17.

It will shoot +p+ ammo without a hiccup and the recoil is still more than manageable.

You will give up one round of capacity and allot of controlability with a .40-G27. Some guys swear that they give up nothing to carry a .40, I am not one of them.

I think the G26 is the creme of the crop in civilian concealed carry weapons.

I would like to add that I reject the premise that any other calibers are "better" for self defense. It falls into preference, all service calibers will get the job done in a SD situation. I strongly prefer 9mm for many different reasons. It just works for me, but ymmv...

Well I convinced my friend to let me borrow his 26, its a bit blockier than i expected when carried IWB

I wish Taurus would get their poop in a pile and come out with their 9 round mags for the 709 :cuss:
I like everything about that gun but want a tad more firepower

Well the G26 seems like it'd fit you the best. I personally like the .40 cartridge so my G27 works well for me.

I don't see any advantage of a G29 over a G27 unless you have big hands and the G27 just doesn't fit you. If you're going to go 10mm over .40 you're doing it for the increased velocity, which is only significantly different with longer barrels.

I'd go with the G26

I used to own a G27, I found it very uncomfortable

G29, I don't find 10mm to be a smart choice for personal defense. It won't do anything to a human attacker than a well placed 9mm can't do

There's also the G36, but I have the same gripe with it that I do small 1911s...too big for how low of a capacity you get

I do like the G30SF though. The extra width doesn't bother me, and it gives plenty of firepower

M&P40c... oh, Glock?

I don't know if the G27 would for any reason recoil more than the M&P40c and I can shoot this just fine! Follow up shots are about as fast as my K9, so I'd imagine you'd be fine with the G27 (although I do remember the larger G23 being on the snappy side).

Jbabbler, I purchased a .357 Sig barrel for my M&P, so I'm going that route as well (for trail use).

I voted G27 as I can shoot 9mm with a conversion barrel.

Mine is stock except for +1 Pearce grip extension. It goes everywhere with me and almost an extension of my arm/hand now.

I went with a G27 with Pearce extensions and an internal LaserMax. I like that it starts with a .4, that it was relatively inexpensive, that it is pocketable, and that the magazines are pretty reliable - even with the extensions.

Of the 3 mentioned I would go for the G26.

I carried a G29 for a while back in the 90's and it was a big "sub compact".

But I also voted other as I love my G39 (I know its 45 GAP but 6+1 of 45 230 grain ammo in that size package is awesome)

Way better on recoil than a G27 with a bigger hole.

I would never get rid of my 26 but I won't be getting rid of my G39 either.

Sounds like you don't want a 40

Negative remark toward 357 SIG

I'd say get a G26

The 27 is about as good as it gets for a small concealable pistol. Plenty of power in the .40 S&W and yet still only 26 ounces loaded. One of the best holsters I ever had is the Glock combat master for $20 new.

And if you want to shoot 9mm get a barrel and shoot 9mm.

If by "obscure" you mean "SD and practice ammo available at Walmart" then yes, its very obscure :)

125gr @ 1500fps is flat, accurate and devastating. Drop in 40 barrel and 9mm conversion barrel... What's not to love???

I say go for the 10!!!

Then again when I think of Glock Perfection I think of their 9mm's. I'm sure it has happened B/F, but I can't recalled ever hearing of someone having problems with a 9mm Glock.

I have a buddy with a G27 and he seems to really like it. He gets a permit every year to hunt Gators and he uses it to kill them once they get it to the boat.
