Probably a good idea.

I second what Shawnee and PremiumSauces have already said.

Personally I very much like iron sights on a big game rifle, but only as a back-up in case the scope is damaged (pretty tough luck if you're in the middle of nowhere on an expensive trophy hunt). A detachable mount is required, obviously, but there are some good ones available for not much more than a fixed set-up.
