Yeppers, the beloved '85 Ford F-150 I mentioned had a 4-speed with a "granny" gear. When I told the saleslady that sold me my Dodge 1500 that I wanted a manual 4-speed, she simply shook her head and said, "Well, there's not much chance you're gonna find one of those.":(
Just to keep this hunting related though - I hauled an awful lot of deer and elk in my old Ford F-150. I haven't hauled any (yet) in the Dodge 1500.;)
I have some hope in that the broncos they're trying to get on the road (chip shortage) now have three pedals. That'll probably be my next vehicle. Currently all I could find was an xterra, because I need to be able to get people in and out and you can't do that in a wrangler. When the xterra goes it'll have to be frontier or bronco. Tacomas, sure, but everyone here drives one so I can't go that route. I have a 97 ranger (also stick shift), which to keep this hunting related, has seen literally oodles of deer corpses. There's probably a permanent layer of dried blood in the ridges of the bed liner.

I'd rather have something interesting than the best thing.........

Id rather have the experience than the trophy....

Besides, who's definition of the 'best thing' do you want to go by? I don't think many of the 'best things' are really the best.

I also like interesting things, but have you noticed there is a fine line between interesting and pain in the butt?

Theres a fair amount of time ill go against my own opinion of "best" lol.
I probably should have said "most efficient and effective" but it dosent have the same ring as simply "best".

And yes, there is often a point where "interesting" starts getting spelled with 4 letters lol. Thats happened less with guns, but cars still get me fairly offten tho....

I'd rather have .25-06 than a .270, .243, .30-06, or anything that shoots in a plastic gun.

I'd also rather have a plain, honest wife than a phony, green-haired tramp no matter how good looking she was. :neener:

I tried and failed to convince myself that I would ever consider anybody with green hair to be good looking.

Cars, and especially airplanes. I have nothing much to say about planes that doesn't involve cussing. I have very light experience with boats, but I imagine they would be high up on the 4 letter word scale as well. As far as guns go, I took apart a Browning 1885 once, and actually got it back together. Nothing a person with 3 hands and prehensile fingers would find difficult.

I too would rather drive a stick shift than an automatic. 85 bronco has a 300 and granny 4 speed, 08 F350 has a ZF 6 speed, 96 F350 is getting a ZF 5 speed.

I would rather blued steel and wood versus plastic.

I would rather an old gun versus a new gun. Or holster. Or truck.

I would rather wear boots than shoes or sandalso_O

I would rather watch M*A*S*H than just about anything made today.

I would rather the Chiefs win the super bowl than not!

I would rather a bolt action than semi auto

I would rather a revolver than semi auto

This thread is wonderful. I really didn’t think it would be when I read the first post (that’s on me, not the op), but it’s provided all sorts of entertainment value.

or in terms more fitting for the original premise…

I’d rather be hunting than reading this thread
I’d rather be reading this than it being closed
I’d rather be entertained by the people of thr than sitting around bored now that everyone else in my house is asleep

Did someone say 1985 F150 with 4 speed "granny gear"? This was March 1993 when north GA got 18-24" of snow. That was a good truck that I kept 10 years and 150,000 miles. But I'd much rather drive my newer 2014.

It is good to remember the past, but not wise to try to live in the past.

I'd rather use my current guns than the ones I let go. Of course, with the idea of remembering the past none of those with a history will be sold, only passed down. But for the most part I only take them out to the range occasionally.

I'd rather have an "USA" made product than a "Foreign Made" one...

Man that brings back memories of my 79 F-250 4x4 dually, with a 460 C.I. Big block, with manual trans w/granny gear and a 2 speed rear diff.
Man I loved that thing...

79 F250 4x4 dually with a 2 speed rear diff is a full on custom! Considering there were no 4x4 factory duallys made until 99. And no 2 speed axles ever in a f250. Im kind of an old ford aficionado...

Id rather walk than drive a chevy :neener:

I'd rather have a .22-250 Ackley than a .224 Valkyrie.
I'd rather have a .280 Ackley than a 7mm Remington Magnum.
I'd rather have a .375 Ruger than a .300 Win Mag.

I'd rather weather winter in PA and NY on public land than pay a lease to shoot scrawny whitetail over bait here in TX.

I bought it used at an auction in the mid 90's. On paper it was a custom order for a concrete company here locally. and was a one owner.
(was also an extended cab with the rear jump seats)

I'd rather have a Ford Model T than a similar vintage Chevvy
I'd rather have a Savage takedown lever gun with rotary round-counter than a JM Marlin lever gun
I'd rather have a JM Marlin lever gun than a Henry lever gun
I'd rather have a Henry lever gun than a foreign-made lever gun

I'd rather be in the mountains than the beach
I'd rather have calloused hands than a soft handshake
I'd rather know how to fix something than have enough money for someone else to do it
I'd rather my kids be respectful of elders wisdom than be overconfident in themselves
I'd rather shoot suppressed than unsuppressed
I'd rather have full magazines before getting to the range than have to load them at the range
I'd rather shoot in the cold then shoot with a full firing line
I'd rather have a Winchester than a Marlin
I'd rather have controlled round feed than push feed
I'd rather have a 308 Win than a 6.5 Creedmoor
I'd rather have a 280AI than a 7mmRM
I'd rather have a CZ97 than a 1911
I'd rather hunt with a bolt action than a semi-auto
I'd rather carry 9mm than a 45ACP
I'd rather have a Ruger than a S&W wheelgun
I'd rather have a warranty that I didn't have to use than a lifetime warranty
I'd rather buy once, cry once than have to repeat my purchases at a lessor cost
I'd rather have an AR15 ready than two shotgun blasts in the air
I'd rather have firearms in the hands of the people than dependent on a benevolent government
I'd rather have lots of police with a few bad apples than lots of bad apples with few police
I'd rather be hunting than fishing
I'd rather have too much ammunition than too little
I'd rather buy from a pro-American company than support the alternative
I'd rather be shooting or reloading than watch today's professional activist sports
I'd rather take a anti-gun person shooting then compete with them at the ballot box
I'd rather tag a couple of wolves than an elk
I'd rather the east coast animal rights people reintroduce wolves to their area and not mine
