Looking For New 9mm Pistol

Bama,

Just dropping in to say, welcome to THR. Great folks here with good knowledge. You came to the right place to ask a question. You'll get good advice (says one who has learned much here).

I can't offer advice to you cause I'm a DAO guy. (Kahr K9. Neither 'better' nor 'worse', just works for me.)

Good luck finding that 9. Great caliber, regardless of what the .45er's want us to believe. :neener:

Thanks for the replies so far. I got rid of my P95 because it was just too big for me to comfortably carry it concealed.
Half an hour after my last post, while cruising THR late night, bored to tears, wishing some range was open past midnight, I happened to cruise by this thread again, and read that line.

That's similar to the reason why I traded my SW 3914 in on my Kahr K9.

The 3924 was a fine gun for someone with a hand that it would fit.

For me, it didn't work.

Shooting accuracy for me went up ten fold with the K9
(which for you may translate to "some other gun").

YMMV.

Bama 61;

To answer one of your questions, the compact CZ 75 compact does not have a decocker. The PCR and P01 models have the decocker in the compact models.
They also weigh a little less.

Jiml3,

Are the decockers only on the left side of the frame on the PCR and P01 models? I don't really think that would be much of a problem by the design. It looks like it could easily be reached by the off hand thumb. What is the mag capacity of these models? How many mags come with the guns?

Decocking lever in the PCR and PO1 is left side only. They are very easy to manipulate with the off hand, or cross over the left thumb. I did that while practicing off hand.
Standard mag capacity is 14. The 16 round CZ75 mags work just fine, but will stick out a bit. They ship with two mags each - make sure to specifiy for the 14 rounders, as once in a blue moon they will ship with the Clinton 10 rounders left over...
I have never had a pistol as good as my PO1.

Yes the CZ are one of the easier pistols to field strip. The Sigs and Blocks may be somewhat simpler but the CZ is not far behind.

I see that armoredman answered your question to me and I agree with his
answer completely. Once again, you have to feel this gun in your hand as I and others did and in most cases you will know it just feels right.

I went to the range today and rented a CZ75. The gun really fit my hand well, but that was it. I just didn't like it! Very nice pistol and accurate, but I really did better with my old P95. I also rented a couple of Glocks for the heck of it. A 19 and a 26. I did ok with the 19, but the 26 actually hurt my hand to shoot. I did do pretty good with both though. The 19 was the best of the three.

But, now I am thinking that maybe I should have just kept the P95. Does anyone have any info on the NEW P95 or the P93?

You just can't beat a Ruger P89 Stainless for durability. It also fits all of your criteria, except size. I've never found a small auto that I really like. There are several that work ok, but I just don't like them. Have you considered a .357 snubbie? I know it's not what you were asking about, but they can be small and light, ambidextrious, and very powerful. Taurus and Smith both make aluminum models that may suit you well.

Just got back from the range a little while ago and shot my FNP-9.All I can say is wow!!! Very accurate, feels great in the hand. Over 300 rounds downrange without a hiccup. You might want to check one out. It also has all the features your looking for 16+1 capacity. It does come with interchangable backstraps, I switched to the arched after the photo was taken.

If you've owned Bersa, try a Firestorm (made by Bersa), they have ambidextrous features. I also know a few people who love their S&W' Sigma series pistols. Both of these will be considerably less than $400 new.

Another suggestion to check out a lightly used SIG Pro or 239.$450 is enough to get you any number of nice 9mm's.I know you said that you wanted DA/SA but if you've never tried one before, give a factory refurbed Glock a chance.

I'd recommend a S&W9VE "Sigma".
I have other popular and expensive autos from Sig Sauer, Beretta, etc, but my last one was a S&W40VE that cost $289 new. The gun works like a Glock, has excellant stainless magazines, the best grip feel of all my handguns and shoots like a house afire. I've fired now over a 1000 rounds with no trouble.
The earlier "SWOCKS" were hated by most, loved by few, but this new Sigma is ergonomically superior than most others. It has a very heavy trigger that gets smoother and lighter as the hundreds of rounds go thru it, thus making your trigger control with other guns better. The action and function were stolen from Glock way back with the 1st SW9 & SW40, but Glock sued S&W and they agreed to change the trigger, and I really dig this gun. You can't lose for under $300, heck, you can trade it or sell it for near what you paid if you don't like it.
But me, I'm getting the S&W9VE to compliment my SW40VE. Did I mention compact? Yep, if I don't belt it, it also easily rides in my back jeans' pocket when in it's Bianchi accumold holster that also costs a measely $30 bucks.
Lots of other great suggestions here too on this thread. I love my Beretta 92 Brigadier as well and would highly recommend it too.

"I would really rather have a new pistol. I am not interested in police trade-ins."

If it weren't for this, I would say get a S&W 6906. I just got one for $235 OTD and I am very pleased with it. It was a police trade-in but it is still in good shape and like all S&Ws I have owned, it is 100% reliable. It is smaller than many of the ones being listed as well. It is much smaller and lighter than a CZ-75 and about the same size and weight as the PCR IIRC. The PCR seems like a nice pistol but I have no first hand experience with it so I can't say much beyond that.

I really liked my Ruger P-95 as well and I got rid of it because it was just too large to CCW. It is shame because it was a true combat pistol that I would trust with my life. The SA XD-9 is fast becomming one of my all time favorites. It is a lot of gun. They do make a compact version as well. It would probably feel a LOT better than the Glock. Glocks are not made for human hands I am begining to believe. The Kahr K-9 is a good one as well.
