and this man was carrying, at least he would have had a chance. But as we see, even driving away/fleeing isn't an option sometimes.

Man Shot, Killed After Leaving Birthday Party

POSTED: 12:59 pm CST November 4, 2005

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating the city's 106th homicide.

James Alexander, 42, was killed after attending a birthday party.

Police said the victim and his girlfriend had left the party and were in a car when they were approached by a man at 17th and Concordia.

The man demanded money.

Police said the woman began to drive away when the victim was shot.

The man's girlfriend drove him to the hospital where he died.

The suspect was not in custody Friday morning.

Holy crap! Some parts of Milwaukee are really turning into slums, I seriously hope the ccw bill passes, I have to go through a lot of the bad areas, and I don't want to take anymore chances.

17th and Concordia?

Come on. Ghetto today and it was ghetto 25 years ago.

If you go through that neighborhood unarmed you are about the only one.

A few tips on travel in Milwaukee.

On the side of town north of I-94, you generally would want to be concerned about any area east of 60th street. That would extend all the way north to Good Hope Road. Bear in mind that there are areas well west of 60th Street that are crime-ridden, especially on the far northwest side.

This area of concern goes pretty much all the way to the lake, includes some of the chi-chi parts of Milwaukee's East side, and extends up to Shorewood on the eastern end. The North shore suburbs are reasonably safe.

South of I-94, 43rd street is for now something of a boundary on the west end, and the bad area extends all the way to Lake Michigan. Things start to get safer around Oklahoma, Morgan or Howard Avenues.

What I've just described is pretty much the entire city of Milwaukee. While the suburbs have their problems, there are few safe areas in the city.

I grew up around Villard. My Father and I both worked at Master Lock Company, which as I remember was on 32nd and Center. Neither are places I would go now.

My in-laws still live in Menomonee Falls, and the place still has some of the same suburban flavor it had in the 1960's.

Milwaukee will always be my hometown, it's just now it seems like 'Chicago-Lite.'

Some parts of Milwaukee are really turning into slums...

Much of Milwaukee has been a slum for decades. None of this is a recent development.

One hopes the state of Wisconsin changes its mind and decides to respect the right of its citizens to fight back against the predators.

So much violence this year in Milwaukee, yet you'll always see those from within the city speaking out against the CCW license proposal the most. "It will cause more violence and put more guns on the street!!!" They're there anyways, wake up and smell the gunpowder.

"...yet you'll always see those from within the city speaking out against the CCW license proposal the most."

Yup, and I sure am glad that all of those principled opponents of CCW carry guns themselves, in violation of current law.

It would be a real hoot to have the Capitol Police pat down every legislator as he/her left the building every night. We'd have shall-issue CCW in a matter of months.
