I prefer the M-1 Carbine for home duty. 110 gr. HP rds. More reliable than the commercial pistol caliber long guns. Not so much power that you ventilate every house in the neighborhood.

Or at least the middle rifle and pistol. If I have the time, the AR-30 gets slung over the shoulder and I carry the 7400 at low ready.
