If you can adjust a Timney, you can adjust a factory trigger

Most major bolt gun manufacturer's have adjustable trigger's, most don't inform the consumer, and for obvious reasons. But in most instances I have been extremely successful in achieving excellent trigger adjustment / tuning jobs that compete with the feel of a quality competition trigger, you just gotta try.

One of my good buddy's came over the other day and picked up one of my Rem 700's to fondle while chatting with me. And when he pulled the trigger on it a couple of times, he just let out a gasp, holy crap, nice Timney job there. I then informed him that it was a stock Rem trigger that I had adjusted several years earlier. I pulled out a some other of Remington's, all with stock triggers, and all with trigger weights that break like glass at no more than 2 lbs., most in the 1.5 lb. range, and some lighter.

So he continued that he had a 700 something or another with the X Mark Pro that he can't get to lighten up to les than 4 lbs., some honestly were weighing every bit of 5 lbs.. I asked him if he adjusted it from the inside factory sealed screws, or the external user friendly X Mark Pro screw, to which he confirmed he used the external screw, which is totally useless. So I convinced him to let me come by his place and show him how simple it is to get those stock triggers shooting nicely. he's now sending a recently purchased Timney back to Midway or Brownells.

Yep, just less legal liability on you for him to buy a Timney vs you adjust his trigger.

If you know what your doing though you can make most factory triggers very good and perfectly safe.

1.5 lb. range and some lighter is way too light for hunting rifles. To the point of being unsafe. Slightest bump on the rifle will cause it to fire. His 4 pounds is sufficient.
Like jmorris says, if that happens on your buddy's rifle and he kills somebody, you get sued. As a minimum.

I made a drawing of the Dumoulin trigger I broke two months ago. I replaced it with a Mauser Timney trigger.

I also have made a picture of how to adjust a Mosin Nagant Timney.

After a while, they all start to look the same.
