If you can't get an M1A/M14, what else in .308?

If you can't get an M1A/M14, then what other top .308 semi-auto rifle alternatives would you go for?

HK91?
PTR91?
AR-10?

The PTR91's are decent but if I were gonna grab a .308, I'd stick with the FAL no questions asked.

AR-10 of some type is what I'd go with. It'd be more accurate than the m1a but less reliabile. With the FAL you'd trade accuracy for reliability.

I don't understand quite why you'd be able to get any of the others if you couldn't get an M1A, but I suppose it is a hypothetical question.

I've owned an FAL, HK-91, and Saiga 308.

For me, I chose to settle down with an LR-308.

I love my FAL. But an AR10 would not be bad either.

So, if price is an issue the PTR91 is the clear choice.

IMO, no brainer -- FAL. Buddy recently found an Imbel version FAL for less than the M1A he had wanted.

I would go with an FAL or an M1 Garand with a new barrel in 7.62 X 51 mm.
