One of the reasons I like Revolvers and Bolt actions is I do not have to run around to gather my brass after a shooting session so I can reload it, So...

If you had unlimited ammo supply what gun(s) would you have. Lets leave out full auto or class III devices. , but what would you get

My short list would be a
good Milspec 1911
a Blued BHP
a short and lightweight AR
M1 carbine

- a 1911 pattern 10mm
- Something in .50BMG... maybe a low-end Barrett.
- That .400 Corbon barrel for my G21 would look more sensible.
- A 37mm launcher would be more sensible too if it was free to feed.

A really good .45 1911. I could shoot that all day, but a bigger gun might leave me sore too quickly.

Just got back from a short range session with my daughter Gus dddysgrl and we were shooting my S&W 13 and 35, 357 and 22lr, They would be 2 more calibers I would shoot a lot if it were for free....

Ditto on the .50, can't decide on bolt action or semi auto, though.
Also:
M1 Garand NM
Some high end tack driver .308, maybe a PSS?

Since you stipulated-out most of the really fascinating and exotic stuff that we Proles are debarred from satisfying our curiousity about by law and/or economics, most of my personal list is pretty much renderred moot.

Lacking ANYWHERE within a couple of day's drive with enough open space to even begin exploring its forte of long-range accuracy, anything in .50 BMG would be an exercise in frustration for me.

The FN five-seven would be a thought, but sorta low on the scale in my Personal Gee-Whiz Meter in terms of Walter Mitty charm.

On the other hand, there's plenty of Mitty in the various "African" calibers from the beginning of the last century. Unfortunately, I lack the level of masochism I'd need to get much more out of shooting them than permanent physical damage.

Now if we could get into something like a Thompson or an MG42.......

I'd also have to chime in on the 50 Cal. I have a Serbu BFG-50 that I LOVE taking to the range but can only do so sparingly. Being in Massachusetts it's near impossible to buy ammo on-line, so I have to spring for gun show and local reseller prices which average about $2 a round for surplus.

Can you say PROFIT!!!!!

Mechem NTW 20mm Rifle :D

Swiss K-31: I always wanted one, but worry that ammo may be difficult to buy years down the road.

One of the AK varients in 5.56x39: Seems like a fun and effective caliber but I just can't justify stocking up on it and 7.62x39 and 5.56x45.

A good high-quality O/U of the Browning persuasion in .410.

Practically cost prohibitive to buy factory new and a darn PITA to reload. I'd gladly take all the free .410 in 9 shot that I could find storage for. ;)

That's probably the only scenario in which I would buy a rifle chambered in .50BMG or any wildcat cartridge.
Maybe a 24 gauge or 32 gauge double, just to say I had one.
.700 Nitro?
A Henry in .44 rimfire?

If I can get a gun in any caliber and not have to worry about ammo prices I would get something in .22lr.

Just joking

I would probably get something in .50bmg or maybe something I could actually use like a NEF 45/70.

Four Bore or 600 nitro

I could shoot these all day long everyday if the ammo was free. Maybe I could get one of those 500 S&W Scandim revolvers too.

All joking aside, I'd probably get me a varmint gun in 22-250 or maybe one of the new Ruger 204's.

Oh yeah, .50's for sure. Both BMG long rifle and AE Desert Eagle. Next on the list would be some accurate hunting rifle (7 mm Sako? maybe a new WSSM Magnum?).

If you had free ammo what gun would get

Um...How about one of each? :neener: :neener: :neener:

Seriously, I guess I'd go with the 50. Although the upfront cost for a gun/scope is pretty steep in itself (and Mrs. AZLib wouldn't approve of such a large dent in our budget.:( )

My 5 Choices :

A 1911 Variant (.45ACP)
Smith & Wesson 1006 (10mm)
Springfield M21 Tactical (7.62)
Barret M82 (.50BMG)
Desert Eagle (.50AE)
