If you had only one shot to defend yourself and had to choose between these calibers,

I pick the .45 acp only because I can't carry a 3 inch ordnance rifle concealed. I'm not going to hitch up 6 horses to go into town just because I want a bigger weapon that particular day.

I'd pick the .357, but I can't handle the recoil. I'm a wimp! I can hold a .45.

If you only have one shot, you're deep in the dwang unless you hit the CNS, because historically it usually takes more than one shot to stop a determined opponent. However, I'll play by the rules, and choose .45 ACP in a good +P hollowpoint loading. Second choice would be a .357 Magnum, similar bullet.

I would choose the gun first, that which I am the most accurate and most instinctive with. The caliber comes later.

In my case, it would be a 1911. It could be in .45acp, 45super, 38super, 9mm, 10mm.. what ever.

A single shot needs to HIT first.

With my just vote cast for the .357 Magnum the count is now 253 votes for the .357 and 253 votes for the .45ACP - back to a tie.

Now that's a lot closer than I thought it would be. But my second clear chioce is the .45ACP, so maybe I should not be too surprised.

I had to vote for the 357mag. My S.A.45acp is a great shooter at close range, But with my Dan Wesson 357 I can pick the spot out to 75 yards.
If the BG is farther than that I'm duckin and runnin for the rifle..
