If you had to choose a rifle and a handgun to go into a battle/armed conflict ?

Hmnnn. I'd go with AR 7.62X39 and a .44 mag handgun. Yeh, heavy stuff, I know. Also would include folding buck knives (two of 'em).

AK47 Rifle (Semi-auto), for the fact its common most anywhere so there's availability of repair parts and ammunition.

9mm Pistol, not enough experience with pistols to pick a brand/model but 9mm is the biggest I feel comfortable shooting and also is high in availability.

On a side note being in the Machine Tool and Drafting Trades with knowledge of automotive repair I've considered what it would take to get me to go work in Iraq as a "Civilian Contractor" and my response is usually this: Yeah sure I'll go work over there for decent pay and with the condition you allow me to carry a firearm of my choice with ammunition at all times, I don't care how safe you say it is, as far as im concerned the entire country is a warzone and the last thing I'm going to do when fired on is NOT be able to defend myself or those around me.

Longarm:
City: Mossberg 590
Eslewhere: M1A or FAL (if I had one :)

Sidearm:
CZ 75B in .40 S&W

I dont own either a rifle or a pistol. But if I had to go into battle, I would take an Ak47 for its great reliability, and a .45 1911 with hollowpoints and a 30 round mag.

If for some reason I ran out of rounds for the AK or it somehow failed, I have a reasonably powerful close range weapon on my hip with non of the capacity drawbacks a pistol with a standard mag has.

My choice would be an AC556 (Mini-14 full auto with sidefolding stock) for my primary weapon, and probably a either a USP .45 or most any Sig in .40SW as a sidearm.

I like the operating system and layout of the AC556/Mini-14 alot, and so im willing to look past its somewhat inferior accuracy compared to an M4/M16.

I'd probably go with an M1A with an Aimpoint red dot. For a pistol, it'd have to be my Glock 21.

whatever the enemy has is always a good option as you can remove arms and ammo from them when the threat has been eliminated. although you are limited to the same accurate range as enemy. while you can defend family friends in a secure location against shtf scenario, until law and order reestablish.in an invasion or civil war scenario most people falsely believe that they can defend their house , compound with a4 ak and other small arms, nothing could be further from the truth. tale your family to a combat range and see how badly you proform when under pressure. most defended compounds can be elliminated with rpg, frag or small handmade ied. a compound cannnot be defended against a major force, you can hold out but only for a while until they get a fifty, ordence or armour. if war conventions are in accord, it may even save your families life if u surrender. if this is not an option, then this is when you have to leave home and head for the mountains and you become a refuge, they cant kill you if they cant find you.
then you are probly be limit to what you can carry. our bob gear includeds 9mm glock each and.223 syn stainless, stainless shotgun. son and daughter have .22 lite stainless for hunting. 2 sets n/v goggles whith solar charger, knives axes bivvy bags lite tents vitamins for 2 years. we can carry them but just. hope it dont happen but if it does better to be set up well

I would have to go with a ST Sig 220 .45 and a Springfield SOCOM 16. If it's the end of the world I trust those two weapons against any foe: nazis, zombies, terrorists, and liberals.

For my rifle I whould choose my M63 "Tanker" Mauser chambered in .308 and scoped with a Leupold mark-4 10x40mm optics. For my pistol I whould take my SA XD40sc. I whould'nt call myself an expert shot, but I am very good at both long range marksmenship and close combat tactics.

What would I carry Hmmm?

The same bloody thing every other bugger is carrying!

Being seen as "different" in either arms or uniform in an operational area tends to attract unwanted attention from snipers and other unpleasant individuals.

Probably an AK-47 and a CZ-75BD in 9mm. I love M-1's and -14's and .45 Colt 1911's but I'd go with ammo availablty. A weapon I can't feed is just a hi-tech club. If I knew I could get ammo, then I'd chose the M-203 and the 1911.

Pistol: 1911
RIfle: If walking the perimeter my M1 Garand, if going into houses a Steyr AUG.
