If you had to choose a rifle and a handgun to go into a battle/armed conflict ?

For the rifle, I like my AR15. It's set up like the Marine SAM-R (with a few lower cost components, but still great for my needs since I'm not an Operator) with a fixed stock, 20" Stainless Match barrel, quad FF rail, Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 (hey like I said I'm not an operator, and it's one heck of a scope for what I paid for it!) on a Larue Tactical throw-lever mount. YHM flip-up front and Matech Flip-up rear BUIS. I've also got a Burris FastFire rigged up ontop of the scope, which gives me a little more flexibility for closer shooting. I love that rifle - can do 3/4" groups with FACTORY ammo, and am just about to go shoot my first work-ups of handloads through it this weekend - can't wait to see how THAT does! :D Also having a bipod, vert grip and tac light on QD throw-lever mounts makes for a very adaptable platform while saving weight down on that already-heavy front end when I don't need all that stuff.

As for the pistol, depends - I love my HKP2000 in 40S&W but it's got the LEM trigger so probably not a good battle gun. My SIGPRO SP2022 in 9mm has the edge for ammunition commonality and magazine capactiy at 15 rounds, and a pretty decent SA trigger pull, so that might edge out the HK. The 1911 would probably be my top pick (once it comes back from the smith with all new Ed Brown internals and a nice trigger job) for a FIGHTING gun given the caliber and ease of operation, so it would probably be up in the air between those two as to which I would actually go with.

I would carry a Thomspson with the 50 rd metal drum and my Rock Island 1911 .45 on a tactical holster strapped to my right leg

Well, I think I would stay with an M-4 or an M-16, dependent upon expected contact distances. As far as a pistol, scrap that P.O.S. M9 and give me either a Glock 17, 19, or 21.

Using what I already have and know works:

My Saiga conversion 7.62X51 w/20" barrel flash hider and multiple 20 round mags, bipod, 8x scope, just like it stands in my safe now. 1moa day or night.

My Witness all steel 10mm w/ extra 15 round mags. 200gr gold dots at 1225fps and flat shooting out to over a hundred yards.

In the world of make believe:

40mm grenade launcher
Crew served ex gehwehr flak 88

What ever I can get ammo/ spare parts for.

So if I was riding with the US armed forces I would most likly choice a M4 or an M14 depending one what we were doing and a M9 as a pistol.

Pistol: Glock 17 (9mm)

Rifle: Arsenal SAS M7 (7.62x39) Underfolder/Synthetic Stock

Both are utterly reliable, use commonly readily available ammunition and are well suited to the urbanized combat environment most likely to be encountered in the trouble zones of today.

Well if in the sand box a M-4/M-16 or an AK--parts, magazines and ammo are all easily accessible.

Well why not an M-9? I dont really like them but parts, mags ammo are all easily available. But Id much prefer something that fit my hands better like a usp COMPACT OR SIG 228/229 and in 9MM just for ammo sake but if .45 was readily available then Id rather have that.

Combat is a not a place to not be able to QUICKLY fix and or feed your weapon.

Just me

I would carry an M4 and a shotgun. I feel like for a combat situation a pistol is not enough. Close in the 12 gauge 870 is the room clearing, show stopper. I carried my M16 A-2 in the gulf and a Moss 500. never used the shotgun but it sure felt good having it. For the record I didn't use the M-16 much either.

Rifle: Valmet M76 7.62x39 or HK G3
Pistol: Hi-Power or CZ75
All the above (w/the exception of the Valmet, but it's mags & ammo are interchangeable w/ most AK variants) are rather common in all the countries I've been in, therefore I'm making the assumption that I'd be able to feed off enemy & host gov't forces( friendly or otherwise) that are taking dirt naps.
