If You Had to Pick: Weapon System or Caliber?

platform. I do better with decent platforms, irrespective of caliber.

I'd rather have an AR or mini-14 in .223 than a saiga or something in .308, since the mini and the AR are better platforms; they have decent sights and useable safeties.

With guns as in politics, the platform is all-important to me. Platform of choice is the 1911.

This looks like a lot of apples and oranges comparisons to me. For groups on target are one thing, for close range defensive work is another.

My thoughts are that when I need a gun I want it to be as simple as possible, so I will choose a double action auto every time. From a keltec double action only P32, to a witness, double/single action 45, I vote for platform. I figure my NEED is to put rounds on a target the size of a dinner plate fast at under 20 feet.

For competition shooting my choice would probably change.
