KY is also $25. if not on you. I like to think I'm worth more than $25 bucks. I voted carry anyway, though I've never left home without it.

in both the states where I live and work, if you're issued a summons for carrying without your permit on your person, all you have to do is show up at the PD with your permit and the summons is torn up.

As usual, this reminds me of another pointless anecdote.;)

At one time I worked for a little electronics manufacturer. One Saturday morning, I stopped in to the building to spend a couple of hours painting my office. (it was a small company)

The owner was there, getting ready to drive to the airport. He asked me to go with him and bring his car back to the office. We get to the airport, he pops the trunk and gets out, I get out to go around to the driver's side. As we are back at the trunk, he says "Say, would you mind putting these in my desk when you get back.", hands me two little pistol rugs, and slams the trunk. I get in the car, toss them on the seat, and motor. As I'm driving away from the airport, for some reason it dawns on me that I had stuffed my wallet in my jacket pocket after getting some drive-thru on the way to work, and I had left my jacket at work.

No driver's license or ID of any kind on me.

I'm in a nice shiny Mercedes, unshaved, wearing stained jeans and a ratty old sweatshirt. The guy whose car it is is on a plane to I don't know where. Two mouseguns in the car, loaded (I peeked and they turned out to be a Browning and a Beretta, both .25). My afternoon plans that day involved a gun auction, so there were several hundred dollars in my money clip. At the time, I wore a nice old Rolex that was formerly my Dad's.

I could just see the conversation, should I get stopped:

"So, Mr. Jubjub, if that is your real name, you say the guns and the car belong to your boss, who you have no idea how to get in touch with until next Tuesday, and the Rolex is yours even though the inscription is to someone else, and all this money is yours, and this is how you dress at the office."

It was a long, slow drive back.:D

honestly. i think driving with out a license is a bigger deal than carrying with out your license. i would obviously be totaly submisive should a cop come into the scene. but i just get the feeling PD's know those of us with licenses are not the people to worry about. how ever. id still leave it in the car just to be safe

I would continue life as usual and in the event that I needed my CCW permit for something on that day, I would explain that I had forgot my wallet at home today.

I live in NY also and I can't imagine a LEO actually raising an issue over it.

I've got a "biker" style wallet that's chained to my key ring on my belt.

No wallet, no keys.

No keys, no go.

I can't even lock my front door on the way out without my keys/wallet.

(So watch, after bragging about it, tomorrow morning Murphy will figure out a way to defeat this marvelous system. Wanna bet?)

I'd make a call to the appropriate person and then turn around. I'd rather run the risk of getting fired than getting arrested.

If I was the "approprite person" I would post a checklist of must haves above the inside lock on my door to run through before leaving. I used to do that when my job required me to leave at 2:30am and I always ran the risk of being half asleep on the way out the door. Only problem was I never put "gun" on the list and I walked out with an empty holster once or twice. :( Had my permit with me though. ;)

Carrying without having your license on your person is a non-criminal offense punishable by a $25 fine in Florida, so I would't worry too much about carrying.

Thanks for this thread.. I was unaware of the penalty for not carrying my license in Florida... now I know... so thank you everyone.

For this exact reason, I wish someone would make a holster with an permit holder built in. That would pretty much elminate the issue unless you have more than 1 CCW.

Had it happen a couple of times.

Once -

Wallet fell out of jacket pocket (note to self, do not put wallet in outside jacket pocket) when I got out of the car at WalMart (dark night, parked far out). Landed on the ground next to the driver's door, but I didn't notice. Wandering around the store with my wife shopping when I realized I didn't have my wallet. I didn't actually remember specifically putting it in my pocket, so was hoping I had left it at home. Made extra sure that I didn't expose the weapon for the rest of the shopping. We got back out to the car and as I unlocked the door I noticed something white at my feet. Yep. My wallet, lying open. Nothing missing, so obviously parking way out was a good thing as no one parked next to us and found it. I was quite nervous not knowing where the wallet was, carrying at the time just ramped up the anxiety factor.

Twice -

Loaded my wallet and office keys into my suit jacket hanging in the closet. Then wore a different suit and forgot to transfer the wallet and keys. I noticed when I reached for my keys to open the back door to the office to go in. I called my wife to bring them to me when she went out, as I would need the keys to lock the office, as I would be the last one out that evening. Much less nervous the second time since a) I knew where the wallet was and b) I would have the permit before I left for the evening.

So, to answer the question, of the two times it happened, I kept carrying once and simply stashed it at the office the other time.

For this exact reason, I wish someone would make a holster with an permit holder built in. That would pretty much elminate the issue unless you have more than 1 CCW.

Although this on the surface looks like a good idea I think that having to reach in the vacinity of your weapon when a LEO asks you to produce it is probably a bad idea.

I had this happen a few weeks back. As it happened, I was heading for the range to shoot a few and when I got there, I realized I had left the wallet at home. Young fella at the counter asked if he could help me and I said that I had left my wallet at home. Being that I am a very regular customer, he laughed and said pick out some targets and "do you need ammo?" I said I was fine on ammo and had him tab me for a few targets so I could shoot a couple hundred rounds. I thanked him profusely and open carried on my way home. (legal in NC). I settled my tab the following week. It pays to be a regular.

Lets see... If I do not have my CCW with me then I do not have my Drivers license, Credit cards, or any money... in short my wallet is at home, and I am dead in the water as to doing anything at all, so I go back and get it.

Other: My permit is in my wallet with my drivers license. I would have to go home and start over!

Quick question for the folks that have mentioned not having your license on you is a fine rather than more serious punishable offense.

Wouldn't it still go on your record and be flagged when you try to renew your license? Keep in mind I'm from MA (where a comma in the wrong place could get you denied in some towns) so please don't flame me too much if I'm out in left field on this one. Just curious.

I believe Colorado is the same as described above for SD. Permit required to be on you, but all is forgiven if you can produce it within 24 hrs.

So yes, I'd continue to carry.

Despite the chain mentioned above (post # 31), I always figured if I got my Utah non-resident permit, I'd still be covered here in Colorado in case my wallet actually did get lost or destroyed.

I figured I'd leave the Utah one n a safe place at home unless needed.

But nooooo....

... our dipdip Legislators took away that option in last year's session.

Lest the mere mention of political parties gets this thread closed or this post deleted, let's just say we've had a turnover in the Legislature and Governer resulting in a distinct turnaround in the Colorado government's attitude toward firearms.

And they've started their nibbling process.

"We find this legislation necessary for the health, benefit and welfare of the Poeple of the State of Colorado," my sweet tush.

Scat!

'spaining my "Other" vote

My Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) is in my wallet next to
my Tennessee Driver License (TDL) and with my
money ($$$) so I would have to go home (no abbrev.)
anyway to get my wallet even if I did have my
concealed carry weapon (CCW) on me.

This is an interesting question because in California I do not know what the repercussions are for not having your permit on you.
If this is written somewhere in the laws I have not come across it yet.
At a minimum, I can see it being somewhat of a hassle while the police officer ascertains your permit status.
But in the end, the fact remains that you do have a permit.
