So, it seems a bit counter-intuitive to me to add in sound volume where I'm trying to protect my hearing from excess volume. Hearing is all too easy to lose and there's no getting it back.
One of my neighbors is like that. Any time he runs loud equipment, he put in his earbuds and cranks it up so he can hear the music. Loud on top of loud.
Due to the usual loud noise throughout a person's life, he's partially deaf. When he takes off his earbuds to talk, he can't hear the birds chirping or the squirrels chattering that I can hear well.
Weirdly enough, I'd swear my hearing has gotten better and more sensitive since I cut down loud music and started wearing hearing protection around loud noise about 10 years ago. Which works out well, because I can hear sounds in machinery that others can't. Helps me fix things that aren't quite broken yet.
