If you listen to music while you shoot what is it?

So, it seems a bit counter-intuitive to me to add in sound volume where I'm trying to protect my hearing from excess volume. Hearing is all too easy to lose and there's no getting it back.

One of my neighbors is like that. Any time he runs loud equipment, he put in his earbuds and cranks it up so he can hear the music. Loud on top of loud.

Due to the usual loud noise throughout a person's life, he's partially deaf. When he takes off his earbuds to talk, he can't hear the birds chirping or the squirrels chattering that I can hear well.

Weirdly enough, I'd swear my hearing has gotten better and more sensitive since I cut down loud music and started wearing hearing protection around loud noise about 10 years ago. Which works out well, because I can hear sounds in machinery that others can't. Helps me fix things that aren't quite broken yet.

I back my truck up to the shooting bench of our outdoor range, get out my guns, load up my mags, go down range & put up my targets. Then open the doors so the speakers point toward the shooting bench. I sit down at the bench load my rifle & cycle a round into the chamber. Using my remote control for the radio as soon as I get the call for the range to go hot, I punch the on button & start shooting. By the time my mags are empty & the song shuts off, I look around then see everyone has left. LOL
Here is the song I was playing.

You are correct, it's not weird. Once you have been exposed to high volume and start protecting yourself with plugs or muffs, you will hear a little better. Many people don't realize that they can help themselves by personal protecion equipment (PPE). But you should go get your hearing tested and see how much you have lost. Sam's club offers free testing. Hearing aids will also help and protect what you have left. Here's a test: crumble up a piece of paper into a ball and listen for the sound. It should sound like breaking glass or ice, not like squeezing cotton.

I like music when I’m doing chores around the house, putting along on the side by side, or low volume at work.

No music when shooting, though. We have kids, dogs, livestock around etc.

Granted.. the kids know not to get behind targets or in anyway in front of the muzzle and the animals usually are enclosed. But I’d prefer not to have music playing just to make sure my attention is squarely on shooting and also safety.

That’s just me though. Everyone’s situation and shooting locations are different.

Never when shooting, don't think that'd be my thing. But I have when reloading. Depeche Mode for me, my favorite is Ultra album. Also listened to Speak & Spell when loading some .44 Mags up (and now that's what I associate the Speak & Spell album with)

Taylor Swift. Billie Eilish.

Only hardcore heavymetal stuff like that. Reaffirms I’m bad news, stay outta my way.

We're the bad guys, duh
