Well I may have made a mistake but I decided it was worth the gamble. I stopped by my local shop today and they had a brand new Springfield XD Tactical in .45GAP and with a price of $439 I figured what the heck my birthday is coming up why not get myself a present.

I have to admit I know next to nothing about the .45GAP but I figured an XD brand new for under $450 was too good to pass up. It came as a kit with a holster and mag pouch but I plan on picking up a Comp-Tac holster for it and eventually some night sights as well. This gun will probably be my new winter ccw, its big but I don't really mind the size.

Anyway here's a pic.....

.45 GAP is a shortened case of a standard .45 auto. GAP stands for Glock automatic pistol. It was designed to allow for the full power of a .45 to fit in a smaller case and therefore smaller grip. People around here say glock really wanted to name a round after itself and although there are practical benefits to this round price has limited it's growth in popularity. It would be very wise to start re-loading if you haven't already as the ammo is very expensive and can be hard to come by. For SD it should be great..... just not much of a cheap plinker at the range

great choice in the xd. i have 2 and i love them, i am not much of a fan of the gap but that is only because of ammo prices and avalibility, but with a reloading set up you could take care of both of those issues.

Welcome to the XD owners bunch. By the way, rack your slide and lock it back, and put some TetraGun lube (looks like white grease) on the exposed striker and sear surfaces, then dry fire the gun several times. You'll be impressed how much it helps the trigger pull... Makes a difference. Happy shootin' ! :D

I own two of them as well and I am very pleased with there performance. I would not trade them for any gun in there price range
congrats

Nice gun, nice price, and, as always, nice photography. I appreciate the extra bit of effort a lot... A guy who knows more than his camera; that he's taking a picture of a black, not a gray thing. :)

.45 GAP: Shrunkened in all the right places, but you've gotta pay for it. It's a give & take.

Funny, I traded for the exact same model last night. Is yours the LE tactical model?

FWIW, I traded a Skyy CPX1 and $100 for it....how'd i do?

congrats on a nice gun, own one myself in 40, used for HD. Excellent choice. As for the 45 GAP, sounds like you have a reason to get into reloading , happy shooting.

What makes it Tactical is the 5" barrel and the rollmark. Otherwise, same gun as XD service.

I've got an XD 45 Tactical. It's a beautiful shooter after trigger mods, but the darn thing is HUGE. Mine is the pistol next to my chair in front of the TV. It's got a light mounted on the rail and is what I investigate those things that go bump in the night with. I'd hate to have to carry it.

Yeah, one of these days when I get out of small apartment living and get a place where I can set everything up I definitely will. In the meantime I'm probably just going to place an order with ammoman.com for a 1000 rounds. They have it for about .35 a round which comes to about $17 per box of 50 which is pretty reasonable I think, plus the shipping is free.

Its not a gun I'm going to shoot as much as my others, I'd be lucky if I shoot more than 1000 rounds through it a year.

Sorry to diss folks, and you might like your pistols, but I can honestly say the Springfield XD is the worst gun that has ever touched my hands. Again, not trying to diss folks here, if you like it, and it fits you, good on you. But wanted to chime in for those who might be considering. RENT IT FIRST!!

I say this with a heavy heart, since I own a very nice M1A Loaded from springfield, which I love, and a nice 1911 loaded from them as well. Both wonderful firearms.

It feels cheaper in the hand than the average $20 air-soft pistol. Very sensitive to how you hold it. My wife fired it when we rented. She had a failure to eject EVERY shot. The shop owner said she was limp wristed, and it was all her. That maybe so, since it worked for me most of the time. Thing is, she shot my Dan Wesson 45 about 60 rounds and NEVER once had that problem. She is a country girl, and grew up around shooting guns. She is no moron.

I DO know how to shoot well. I bought very good ammo. This thing shot all over the place. Getting it on paper at 25 feet was a serious chore, and hard to do. Same ammo with my 1911, I was consistently right where I placed my shots.

Inaccurate, cheap, flimsy, too light, and too sensitive. I would not trust my cats life to this gun, let alone my own.

Yes, its a flame, but this pistol is a dud.

For those on the fence, check out the CZ-75. Slightly cheaper firearm, 10,000% better.

For the record, the pistol had fixed sights, and was only about 2 weeks old as they said. Was visibly well cared for. It was just a dud.

I set aside my 1911s as duty guns in favor of my XD45 Compact; though mine's a 45ACP, not the GAP.

100% reliable. Fires everything I've fed it. Wonderfully accurate. Durable. Lighter than my full-size 1911 even with loaded with the greater ammo capacity.
I'm certain you'd find MANY more satisfied customers than unsatified. Visit XDtalk.

I'm anxiously awaiting a .45ACP sub compact...
