I have the opportunity to get an Argentine HiPower or a Croatian PHP MV 9

http://www.southernohiogun.com/

My local shop has both and they are the same price. I'm leaning towards the PHP because it is so strange looking. Any one with experience with these?

Definitely try the PHP, if the write up cites spotty (shoddy) workmanship, definitively want to get your hands on it and try it, none locally and if a dealer gets on in, the price is WAY more than where they bought it from....

If you want a shooter, get the BHP, more parts and aftermarket parts, the PHP from what I read, you basically have to clobber P1/38 parts into fit. But the PHP is more collectible because so few were made and they never will be any more of them.

BHP by a mile. Unless you like guns that are difficult/impossible to find parts, mags and good holsters for....

A couple of positive reports have come in regarding the PHP, IIRC, which has some remnants of the P.38 in it. It has been a solid and reliable shooter to date. The price is certainly right, if you are in the market for something different -- and different it is.

The PHP was a short lived service pistol plagued by various issues. It was replaced by the HS2000 and *it's* son is the Springfield XD (still made in Croatia).

Pass on the PHP...get the Argentinian.

There is no reason to get that Croation gun except as a curiosity, and it's overpriced for that purpose. There are no spare parts, mags, or service available. As soon as something breaks it's useless.

Get the HP.

WOW, that PHP really does look like a P-38 redesigned at a beer hall meeting of far sighted design school drop outs.

I'd go with the HP.

Definitely go with the Argentine FM. They're a little rough compared to an Browning Hi-Power, but it's a proven design that works.

I have no idea what a PHP is but I love the High Power. I am fairly new to them. Mine is a Belgium made one but man is it a great shooter. Its just fast and accurate as can be. A real pleasure.

Conflicted over these choices?

You've got issues :D

The Argy Hi-Power is fully intercompatible with Browning Hi-Power accessories and parts.

The other pistol is made of metal.
