For the past twenty years I have played that game we all know so well and love to discuss on the forums, "what is the best gun/caliber for this or that situation." I have gone through countless considerations as to the pros and cons of dozens of guns and finally arrived at the ideal defensive handgun assortment for my anticipated needs. I have chosen the following to fill my various niches:
DAO Beretta Centurion in 40 S&W for home defense
S&W 640 .357 cool weather (it never gets cold here) CCW when wearing an outer garment
S&W electroless nickeled 442 CCW pocket gun in warmer (read hot) weather
NAA Guardian .32 for deep deep concealment when the 442 just won't fit
and of course any or all of these could serve as back up to the Beretta.
I decided on the Guardian and 640 a couple of years ago for their intended purpose and that took a very long time and much trial and error to decide on those. The Beretta and 442 are relatively new purchases and they fit their roles perfectly. As you can see, I am a big fan of DAO guns for defensive purposes although I also love DA/SA and SA for recreational shooting. Its been an interesting and fun journey to get to this point but I have to say it feels really good to finally find what works best for me. BTW, this doesn't mean I will never need another new gun just for the heck of it.
