I'm going to get a new Beretta but...

If I were you, I would get a Langdon Tactical Beretta. It looks super smooth and receives positive reviews.

That's probably a good bet. I've had a a couple Berettas that they've done work on and they've come back pretty nice. I imagine the factory ones are good.

Well if the finish would be ok on a black M9A3, I reckon that might be a good possibility. Is there any conceivable reason a 92A1 would be superior to the M9A3 at all? I recall there being something beefed up in the A1 slides? And some kind of buffer in the frame? But weren't they incompatible with some aftermarket parts?

The finish on the black M9A3 will be exactly the same as the finish on any other black 92 variant (like 92FS, M9, 92A1, etc)

Honestly - in 9mm, the buffer on the 92A1 doesn't do much. Yes, the slide is a bit thicker around the locking block, but not in the same was as a brigadier. And, it really doesn't matter. However, the sights are dovetailed, so you can change out the front sight (unlike a 92FS).

I have owned a few 92A1s over the years. I prefer the M9A3, though. For one thing, it comes with night sights already on it. That's an added cost, if ya wanna put that on later. Also, the M9A3 comes with a factory D spring already installed, and it has a metal trigger and safety levers. I also like the FS version of the M9A3 - the levers tilt up at a higher angle, which makes it harder to accidentally put the gun on safe.

The 92A1 is cheaper up front, though. If you never intend on getting night sights, get the 92A1. If you do plan to want night sights - just get them on tghe M9A3 to begin with.

Yeah I'm kind of trying to decide if I'm really ever going to need the night sights on there. I've got a couple others that have them, so it's not like I *need* them on there. I'm not really all that concerned about the metal parts -- I've got a gob of Beretta goodies here including a couple of the trigger job in a bag sets, so once I get whatever I decide on I'll probably be tearing it down and installing all that.

I think the biggest decision right now is do I want the old school frame or the vertec one. My regular 92's *are* a big big for me but much better with the thin g10 grips. And they really only feel kinda big in double action so I'm not really sure that's even something to worry about. I know any of them are going to be good guns so It's just a matter of deciding which way I really want to go. (Which makes it even harder, since there's nothing I can cross off the list to begin with!)

Arrrrgh I'm having a terrible time deciding which model to get and I keep second guessing myself finding reasons not to get all of them.

I really want a bruniton finish. The inox ones just aren't me. Too flashy. I'm also one of those weirdos who really prefers Italian made ones. I know there's no logical reason for it, but Beretta's an Italian company and in my head it just feels right getting one made over there. (I'm the same way with Austrain Glocks)

I love the classic 92fs look. I just wish it had a dovetail on the front so I could throw some tritium sights on. If I could find a brigadier I'd probably be happy but they're few and far between from what I can see.

The 92A1 seems like it would be a good choice. I know there are still some new in box Italian ones floating around out there on Gunbroker. I'm ok with the old grip style, although I do have smalling hands that are probably better suited to the Vertecs.

I could go with a 92X variant. The grips may fit me a little better but I've been shooting the old style ones long enough that either way probably isn't a big deal. But darn it they're all made in Georgia not Italy as far as I know.

That leads me to thinking about an M9A3. They've got the tritium sights from the factory and they're italian made. That should make it an easy choice but the problem is I keep hearing horror stories about the finish flaking off.

What would you guys do?
If I ignore your desire for an Italian made one, I'd say go after one of the Wilson Combat Offerings. I had a Brigadier Tactical with a Wilson tuned trigger for several years. By all accounts it was a very nice gun, and aside from a Steel I, my ideal 92 variant. Check out Wilson's website.

I just sold mine off, because an adventure into the world of CZ competition guns last year left me wondering why I still owned the Beretta. But if they trip your trigger, the Wilson's are very nicely done. The only gripe I had with it was the rear U notch sight. It just really didn't work for me. I mean I could shoot it fine, but every time I took it to the range I had to remind myself where to hold. I much prefer a three dot sight picture, and a front tritium sight with a blacked out rear makes no sense to me. I want tritium front and back.

The $110 for the trigger job is well worth it.

Or you could get an Italian one, and send it to Wilson to be worked over.

I've sent a few of my Berettas off to WC over the years and always been impressed with their work. I've never owned one of their custom ones. I cam close to buying one used last fall. I was at the shop and a guy came in and was going to trade one in towards something else. What they could offer him wasn't quite what he wanted but the guy behind the counter knew I liked Berettas and urged the two of us to work out a deal. I came close to buying it from him but I really had no idea of how it shot or anything. I probably missed out on a good deal!

To be honest I'm not sure if I'd even really ever need the night sights.
The only guns I really worry about having night sights on are my carry guns and my home defense guns. I do go out at night occasionally and I find them useful.

On a range/fun gun, they are not that useful.

That and I've got a couple others that have them so it's not like I don't have something I can use.

The thin VZ's on the M9 are more comfortable for me than the thick Herett's (or Hogue?) cocobolo on the Inox.

Agreed! I've got the WC / VZ ultra thins on my Inox and love them. They may only be a few mm thinner but it feels like a whole new gun.

I really want to handle one of those new M9A3 or 92x with the Vertec grip. I had a 96A1 years ago that I really liked except the grip was too big for my hands, my fingers are short enough my 12 year old daughters hands are about the same size and she’s only 5’ tall. I’d love to have a Beretta back in the stable.

It's been a while since I've held an M9A3 and I can't quite remember how they feel side by side with a regular one. If the stores around here weren't all sold out it wouldn't be a problem. I'm currently leaning toward the LTT with the M9A1 frame but who knows how long that'll last. By morning I may have changed my mind to an M9A3.

I got kind of excited when I read something about Langdon 92x models until I realized they didn't have all the snazzy upgrades the LTT Elite does, just a Langdon trigger job. The price is good though...

Carried one in Iraq and Afghanistan so when I got out of the military I decided to get a 92 but they are big so i went with a 92C compact with no rail.
I really like it

I broke down and ended up ordering the 92G Elite LTT. It'll be at my FFL tomorrow, so it's just a matter of waiting for the paperwork to go through. I'm excited!

Greg,

So many BERETTAS, so little time. A couple of years ago, I bought an M9A3, when it was the only generally available VERTEC gripped 92. I love it and it has become my primary house gun. It is big and bulky, but not super heavy. I use it with a 500 lumen light on the rail and FEDERAL HST124 grain ammo.

I prefer for concealed carry, my old 92D Compact or 92DM Compact (single stack). Still, I have been thinking about getting a new 92X Compact and seeing if the combination of Compact overall size and VERTEC grip work even better for me.

Good luck with your 92G Elite LTT.

Jim

I've always favored the good old 92FS. Not at all because of the movie, but this is just a fun pic of a couple of mine I took sometime back.

I’ve had over a dozen Beretta’s. I am left with only 2, both in Brunition. An M9 and a 92FS Vertec. There are three I REALLY regret selling:

Cougar INOX. It was stamped PW Arms but it was super nice.

92FS Centurion. That was what should have become the M9. Slightly shorter barrel but same capacity.

92FS Police Special. Came with three mags, had a little police shield on the dust cover, but most importantly it had night sights installed.

The newer 92X is what I’d be looking at today if I was buying. M9A3 doesn’t do it for me. Never gonna suppress it and my Vertec does everything that the M9A3 needs to do.

I hear you. I had 3 or 4 of them at one point, and I'm not sure how many I've owned over the years. A few years back when I was between jobs I sat down and took a serious look at my gun collection and pared it down quite a bit. I've kind of had a quality vs quantity attitude since then. No need to have a dozen 9mm handguns most of which don't excite me a whole lot when I can have just a couple that I love. There's only a few special ones that I know I won't let get away, but other than those I'm always buying, selling or trading to get something that I like better. It keeps me busy and he young lady happy with not having an entire house full of guns.
