i got mosin-nagant m44 is that good rifle for deer hunting in missouri i heard its about like like a .308 is that right thanks for your help.

If you're going to carry it a lot, invest in a sling. Those things get heavy really fast.

Go shoot up some ammo to get proficient with it. The deer is giving its life so you can eat, you owe it a decent death.

Get VERY familiar with safety practices. No hunting accidents, you hear me?

Good luck!

about your answer

My whole family uses the Mosin Nagant, for damn near everthing, Seal, Small whales,Walrus, Caribou, Moose, Musk Ox, even Rabbits,Fox and Otter, Wolves, ect.... so I can only reccomend them for Deer.............but Turkey hunting with an M-44??

Now thats gonna be interesting.

What did you hunt Turkeys with before?

id forget about scents/calls.

your best bet is to get out and scout for deer trails and signs. find out where the deer are, and pay attention to the wind. find a nice spot, with the wind in your face, and they will arrive.

or get someone to take you out

Mossbergs and Mosins....most excellent hunting guns!

Since you plan to use the M-44, they were sighted in with the bayonett extended. You might remove it and see how it does, for weights sake.

Now for a .22lr rifle and some kina pistol, and you will have a gun for every occassion:D

Having a god talk with someone whos experianced and prehaps knows the ground you plan to hunt can be a major help. We visit around in the village when guys come home from hunting, and share good news. It helps ALOT.

Good luck

+1. Scents and calls may not work at all and may even be a hindrance to you until you get the basics of deer behavior and woodsmanship down first. Have read several stories where a first time hunter went out to a new spot and rattled a good buck up first time out. Believe me, in most instances this was just luck and is not the norm.....and unlike most scent companies ads, most bucks don't run in blindly every time they smell that $12 can of scent bomb.
