Hey fellow shooters i'm sure my name is a household name amongst the shooting community. Found this site a little while ago while browsing the firing line. This site looks pretty cool and a bit more active so I think I will enjoy myself here. By the way, i'm 16 and a sophmore in high school. Now, to keep this thread gun related, i'll tell the guns I use.

Mossberg 500 (12 gauge)
Remington 700 (.338 ultramag)
Ruger 10/22 (.22LR)
Ruger Security Six (.357 magnum)
NAA Mini Revolver (.22 magnum)
Romanian Kalashnikov (7.62x39mm)
Daisy Legacy (.22LR) **Belongs to my little brother now**
Marlin model 200 (.410 bore) **Belongs to my little brother now**

I got many many more guns I have access to, but these are the guns I consider my own.

Welcome to THR guy !

Quite an impressive list for a young shooter . At 16 I had a single shot Remington model 510 in .22LR , an old side by side with hammers in 12 ga. (paid $5 for that shotgun and $7.50 for the rifle - been awhile ago) and that's about it.

I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that 12 ga., but no target was safe from that little .22 rifle.

Enjoy the site !

Welcome to THR !

Mnrivrat is right, your collection is impressive for someone your age. Looks like the next addition you should consider is an AR15 to make your AK jealous. :D

I definatly know i'm going to be flamed for saying this, but oh well i'll say it anyways. I don't like AR-15s. Anytime I shoot one of them black rifles I am reminded of all the many jammings I had to deal with while shooting M4s at my uncles house. I know all the AR-15 fans out there say jammings are just a myth and don't happen, but well, they DO happen. And quite often. A kalashnikov rifle is way more reliable and durable in my eyes. Not meaning to offend any AR-15 owners or the many AR-15s out there that actually function properly. Just giving my oppinion.

My dad owned an AR-15 for awhile. One of them "Rambo" style ones that was very small. It shot ok as long as there was not one speck of dust in the action. :p :D

Hee hee. When you need another rifle, AK coinnesseurs 'round the world recommend a tasty Valmet or a savory Galil. Bloody things are damned expensive, though. :( "Shall not be infringed" must not mean what I think it means.

For those who like the AR system, ARs are fine. For those which prefer something a little more robust, there are other choices. The same like of reasoning applies for most pistol calibre arguments. On that note, while I digress...

I think the next rifle I want to get is a mini-14. I had one for awhile and didn't shoot it all that much, but was very fun and relativly accurate for such a simple semi auto design. Had to give it back though. :( Now that that God awful assault weapons ban is over I can get a true folding stock for a mini-14 if I choose to get that type of rifle in the future.

Money is very tight with me because of my limited work and supporting my newborn son. I shall overcome though in the summer when I can work full time. :)

16? I remember 16. I was just out of high school, headed for college. That was in 1951. Loading for a .30-'06 with an old Lyman 310 Tong Tool, feeding an old 1917 Enfield.

Welcome aboard. You'll find that a lot of folks can answer questions and offer information to help you get the most out of your shooting and hunting.

WOW Art you got 10,000+ posts under your belt here. I'm sure nobody here has the nerve to call you an inactive member. :D Anyways, thanks for the welcome. I'm not feeling well and going to stay home from school today. I plan on using my down time to maybe tinker around with my RWS pistol and do a little indoor airgun target shooting. Also browse this great forum too. :)

Maser,

I won't flame you for your dislike of the AR-15, but I will ask about the brand name, model, etc., of the ones you've fired. Also, how well were they maintained?

The AR is admittedly more finicky about dirt than the AK, but the the AR is also generally able to reach out more accurately. So it can be a tradeoff.

All I've ever shot are the ones I was issued for qualification in the military, and 3 different Bushmasters since retiring. Thousands of rounds and not a single jam.

I hope you can get over this dislike, because someone with your firearms familiarity would make an excellent addition to our nation's military. And then you WILL have to learn to trust the little black rifle with your life.

Well, I admit the M4s I shot were in pretty bad shape. I think it was mostly the magazines malfunctioning. The lips were a little bent out of shape. See the rifles I shot were actual military surplus M4s. My uncle is a class 3 dealer. I really didn't take notice of any names on the rifle. Just shot a few different rifles and each had jamming problems.

The one my dad used to own was built from just a lower receiver. My dad bought all the parts and made a project out of it. Like I said above, it shot pretty good as long as the action was kept clean. Maybe I can meet somebody here who lives in Cali who owns a good quality AR-15 and can invite me to a day of shooting and break my anti-AR-15 beliefs. :D

AR-15

Hi Maser, and welcome aboard.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with the Little Black Rifles. I haven't noticed such a problem, so you must have had some pretty shoddy magazines.

Back in the mid-80s, a friend and I ran an all-out torture test between a Colt
SP-1 and a Mini 14 to see which was top dawg. (A grudge match) 2,000 rounds of PMC through each rifle, without cleaning either one. Fired until the barrels were blistering hot, and the bolts only lightly oiled every 500 rounds without removing them. The Colt never missed a beat. The Ruger did on a few occasions, finally spitting the extractor out near the end of the test. We finished up the rest of the ammo through the Colt, scrounged an extractor for the Ruger...cleaned...and retested 100-yard accuracy. The Colt's groups were unchanged, for the most part. The Ruger shot all over the paper.

Maybe you should try some good magazines in one. Might change your perspective.

Cheers

Maser,

I guess I was under the mistaken impression that semi-auto rifles with detachable mags were banned in the People's Republic of California. I know I've seen "workaround" ARs that break open like a shotgun so you can fill its fixed mag. Did they grandfather all the existing weapons or something? I've not kept up with what's going on in that socialist utopia.

Welcome to THR! If you're still in high school, working part time and helping take care of a baby you've got more than enough on your plate. Feel free to shoot vicarously through us and save your money and take care of your child (ammo's cheaper that way anyway;) ).

Detachable mags are legal here as long as they are not over 10 rounds. And I think that only applies to the newer versions. The high capacity mags my dad had were all made before 1986 and I don't think they counts as being illegal. Don't matter no more anyways because he don't own it no more.

Welcome aboard, young matey!:D Wow, I thought I was doing well with a Crosman M1 carbine BB rifle, a Sheridan 5mm pellet rifle and a Stevens .22 bolt waaaayyy back when I was your age. I'm rather envious.

Sorry about your experiences with ARs. Mine is superb. Like Tuner said, though, probably just shiddy magazines. Try a good one.

Yeah, I guess the ARs I have shot were just pieces of crap. I don't like to say a military type of weapon is bad, but in my case they didn't shoot well for me. Oh well, i'm still young and will have many good and bad types of firearms.

Tecumseh, thanks for posting that GlockTalk thread.

It is rather revealing, I think.

It's rather stupid if you ask me. I think it's kind of weird that someone likes to follow me around at other sites I visit and post at. Oh well, some people are just very bored I guess. :D :p

Welcome to THR.

We'd help you fix the black rifle or point you to getting one that's reliable out of box.

A friend bought some excellent looking British made magazines for the AR15. Stove pipe, FTF, rounds stuck in the mag, etc. Replaced the follower and springs in them did not help. Started measuring and the whole damn mag is too short, the mag catch is not right. There may have been other issues but they were just wrong. The days of Webley and Scott are dead in the empire. May the quislings among the British burn.

Mine works fine with the cheap colt brand mags I've been finding at the gun shows. Eats wolf and better with no problems.
