I'm looking at a Springfield M1A Bush

I think they quit making these awhile back but I've recently found one for sale.
It's heavy walnut with 5 new 20rd SA factory mags, SA bipod ($129 from SA), SA multi tool, cleaning kit, sling, original box, manual. 8 rounds fire. It looks new. $1275

But then I see a PTR-91 or a DSA STG 58A and I like the DPMS .308 too.

Will all of these hold their value? They all seem like good quality accurate rifles. It's gonna be a hole puncher at the range for me and most probably passed to my kids.

My Bush rifle is the handiest, loudest, and most used .308 caliber rifle I own.
I like it so much I am going to have to rebarrel it at some point.

I guess the short barrels are really in style now. More noise, less velocity, stunted sight radius and more recoil. I'm not sure I get it
They do look cool though.

I have an 18 in barrel and shortened stock with a Garand buttplate on 2 of my girls.Lighning fast very light.You really don't lose much velocity and you still retain ample power and accuracy out further than most people can shoot and their about the same overall length as my wife's Socom.Of course I also have my National Match as back up .

Wanted to add that M1a's hold their value very well and with the rifle your'e looking at being an older model it's likely to have a greater number of U.S.G.I. parts (they add abit to the desirability and value though not neccesarily to the function).Springfield Armory has a warranty for the life of the rifle, not original owner, and demand for rifles has always been high.You'd be hard pressed to find an SA rifle of ANY vintage or condition for less than 1,000.That's how well they hold their value.It's also proven performer,accurate and reliable.The Fal is not nearly as accurate nor can it be made so.In addition the huge influx of kit built guns means rapid depreciation.The PTR91 is a relatively new company and while the HK type rifle is reliable and fairly accurate it's rather awkward for me personally.The DPMS I have no first hand experience with.I have heard that they are very accurate but the direct gas self fouling system is a deal breaker for me though i'd take the DPMS over an Armalite after seeing several Armalites choke.I'm sticking with The Queen of the Battle Rifles for the foreseeable future.Unless a piston driven .308 Sig comes out.

The scout or bush rifles with the 18 inch barrel would be infinitely more practical that the Socom 16. It would be less noisy as well and lose less
velocity than the Socom as well.

I'd also go with that the bush rifle as noted earlier for the better parts. Mine has a TRW bolt and other GI parts. It was purchased about 15 years ago and would be worth more to me if I could find another one.

It would be my choice over those other 308 battlerifles if I could only find another one.

While this is indeed my loudest sounding .308, I should clarify by saying that I use the rifle to hunt deer in Wisconsin and it is certainly no louder than the .300 Winchester Magnums some guys use to shoot deer way up there!
