Well, we all know that he broke all four of Jeff Cooper's four rules, and he had no business bringing ANY live ammo into the classroom except maybe in his BUG, which should remain concealed. Show & tell with firearms belongs on the range, with guns pointed downrange and and students behind the firing line.

However, while we are talking about how dumb this guy is, I would like to point out a few things which in no way contradict the fact that he screwed up at least five times all at once in order to make this happen.

First, let's look at this guy's hair. What does it tell us? I think it tells us that this guy doesn't wear a uniform, and that he carries a gun to stay alive in an environment very few sane people would volunteer to expose themselves to. If he ever displays his gun in that environment, which seems quite possible, I doubt that he does it in a style which would mark him as a part-time range officer. In fact, if he had that style, I'll bet he'd work to get rid of it.

Once he screwed up, he did a remarkable job of keeping calm and trying to keep his audience calm. He even added a little humor when he asked for another gun. Unintentional humor, I guess.

I would be very interested to know what instruction he received for this assignment, other than "Go talk to these kids about drugs and guns." My wife actually couldn't believe that he was that stupid - she thought he was set up, somehow. Only when i explained to her that there was some chance that the DEA was as big a bunch of ****ups as some of the BATmen did she accept the idea that this was really an accident.

As a retired mustang (O, former E), I look immediately to whoever sent this guy out on an assignment obviously way over his head. BTW, just how good an agency can that be, that their handpicked representative breaks ALL the rules at once while doing a demo for kids? I would suspect that gun-handling is sloppy throughout at least that office, and probably the whole agency.

This good guy (let's not forget that) screwed up big time, but he was not alone.

Everyone has one; there's mine.

"As a retired mustang (O, former E), I look immediately to whoever sent this guy out on an assignment obviously way over his head."

His assignment, as you correctly pointed out, was "Go talk to these kids about drugs and guns." What cop can't handle something like that? His boss probably said something like "Hmmm. I have to send someone over to talk about drugs and guns. I know--I'll send Bob the Idiot. Even *he* couldn't screw up something like that."

Looked to me like the "only one professional enough" was the female. It looked like she cleared the weapon (pointed at the floor) with her back to the audience and then went and retrieved the brass.

"His boss probably said something like "Hmmm. I have to send someone over to talk about drugs and guns. I know--I'll send Bob the Idiot. Even *he* couldn't screw up something like that.""

If so, his boss was wrong, of course.

And didn't know his men. And didn't think sending someone over to talk to kids with a few guns and not a great way to display them properly was a big deal, especially for a well-trained outfit like his.

It was NOT a well-trained outfit. FIVE ERRORS ALL AT ONE TIME. It wasn't just Dreadlocks who erred, and I'll give you dollars to doughnuts Dreadlocks wasn't the only gun slob in that outfit.

Maybe his targeted audience was kids in a lower income area, so he would be able to relate to them better than a white dude in a button down t-shirt.

When I was in the third grade, we had a couple officers from our local PD come to our class. Before I tell the story though, a little background info. And really, keep in mind, I am not trying to bash all officers, just the ones in the town I grew up in.

The officers in this PD weren't really well respected. This is a tiny little town with no freeway access, maybe 10,000 people, and the area could be considered upper middle class, if not upper class (Neighbor across the street had multiple ferraris and porsches). Not exactly gangland. Yet the cops had all the newest coolest tools and toys (for them it was toys). They were the first PD in the area to get new style crown vics, and they ended up with a select fire MP5 in every car. :what: And that is in a town where the biggest crime that had been committed in the time I grew up there was when some kids torched a car while drunk (my car btw).

Anyways, several of the officers were considered to be like Barney Fife (except for the loaded glock on the hip and the MP-5 in the car  ). Now, to be fair, there were a couple of pros in the department, and we respected the hell out of them, but they were very outnumbered.

So this officer comes into the class, and talks about how dangerous being a cop in this town is. Everytime she walks out in public, she is a target (nevermind there has been almost zero violent crime), and she is always fearful of her safety. Guess jaywalkers constitute a massive threat against the police  .

This officer then proceeds to clear her duty firearm, remove the mag, check the chamber, and then with all the kids gathered in a semi circle, she passed her duty pistol one way, and her loaded mag the other. :what:

Both the magazine and the pistol arrived in my hands at the exact same time. I just sat there for a second reflecting on how this one officer was an idiot. Not even looking at where her pistol or mag was, I could have loaded it and shot before she saw me. :banghead: And that was when I was in 3rd grade.

DEA Agent Suspended After Shooting Video Surfaces

DEA Agent Suspended After Shooting Video Surfaces
Investigation Launched Into Who Leaked Internet Video

UPDATED: 4:01 am EST March 19, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency was been suspended after video surfaced showing the man shooting himself during a gun safety class in front of a group of Orlando fourth-graders, according to Local 6 News.

An investigation has been launched to determine who leaked the home video of the undercover DEA agent shooting himself at an event sponsored by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association.

Before the shooting, the agent was videotaped talking about how certain weapons are popular with rap artists.

"This is a Glock 40," the agent said on the tape. "Fifty Cent, Too Short, all of them talk about a Glock 40, OK?," he said. "I'm the only one in this room professional enough that I know of to carry this Glock 40."

Seconds later, the agent shot himself in the foot.

"See how that accident happened, that could happen to you and you could be blown away," the agent said after the shooting.

Experts in the field said that the undercover agent should never have been videotaped because it could put the agent's life at risk, Local 6 News reported.

"It puts a lot of undercover agents in jeopardy if their faces are videotaped," the masked agent told Local 6 News. "His identity is burned. His identity is known as a police officer and its a potential personal safety hazard to himself as well as his family members."

The video of the shooting is posted on several Web sites on the Internet. The video shows the shooting and the agent's face.

Local 6 News did not show the entire video of the shooting because the undercover officer could be identified in some of the shots.

so it was an undercover agent wearing the t-shirt with the big "DEA" printed on it....

Hah Hah, cats out of the bag, horse has left the barn... good luck running down the person that taped that idiot.

I don't understand what idiot decides to send an "undercover" cop out on a public relations bit. I thought undercover cops were supposed to stay "under cover". Going into a school wearing a DEA shirt kinda gives away the fact that you are a cop.

Also, this story makes it sound like this guy was still working after this incident. It wasn't until the video got leaked that he got suspended. Wow, sounds like a coverup attempt.

What a bunch of dopes. Who's idea was it to authorize the doofus to go do the presentation and demonstrate to begin with? I don't even see the benefit, especially with a federal agent that needs to keep his identity secret for undercover work.

They could have gotten any PD cop to go and give the demo. Probably would have been safer. I doubt the agents giving the demo even had the authorization of the DEA or their supervisor to be there.

Agreed. The "he's undercover" bit is just a red herring to cover the screw-up and place blame elsewhere.

If they chose him to go to a local school with a problem, that means he'd be demo-ing to the friends and relations of the local badguys he'd be going after.

Why can't anyone in authority just accept responsibility for anything anymore?

Oh yeah, cause we let greedy people sue over hurt feelings and "mental anguish". :banghead:

From the language of the news release it seems he was working his old job like nothing happened but the video release and its storm over the Internet made them have to do something. I'm sure a lot of people were wondering how DEA could continue to employ someone so careless as that.
My other question is, what is the DEA doing sending undercover agents to talk to kids? The local PD has plenty of people. The local FBI branch has plenty of people. The DEA itself must have plenty of people not working undercover so why send someone who supposedly is an undercover agent? Sounds fishy to me. I doubt he really was an undercover agent. I thnk that was just a fabrication to redirect animosity.

I laughed so hard...

...I almost had an asthma attack. :D

No guys, this ain't damn real. The guy's too dumb even to go to the toilet and hold his gun in order to hit the urinal. He's probably too dumb to breathe as well, but some autonomous bodily reflex made sure he would stay alive to become DEA agent, and, shock and horror, possibly to reproduce.

Does the US have such a low schooling level that now even mental dropouts like this can became DEA agents?

I'm experiencing extreme cognitive dissonance, at the apparent level of disrespect and lack of deference shown in this thread (aka cop bashing). The usual apologist contingent must be on vacation this week?

Justice would be served, if the next time y'all are ambling through the woods, and are threatened by some illegal weed patch, you're frantic call to 911 would go unanswered (DEA disbanded)? Thankfully, owing to the asset forfeiture provisions, those with foresight have built into the law, thats unlikely to become a reality. Narcing can be a profitable avocation. Someone profession enough to handle a telephone will be there to answer your call.

An investigation? Never mind investigating who decided to keep Mr. Dreadlocks on as a federal agent after he shot himself infront of a bunch of parents and kids.

Experts in the field said that the undercover agent should never have been videotaped because it could put the agent's life at risk
It wasn't the video that put everyone's life at risk in that room. It was the moron with DEA on his back.

"His identity is burned. His identity is known as a police officer and its a potential personal safety hazard to himself as well as his family members."
His identity as a moron is burned. He is the biggest safety hazard to himself -- and I have video to prove it!

If this weren't so pathetic -- if we weren't paying for this idiot -- it would be funny. :barf:

I just got done watching that video....................talk about arrogant. That's the type of LEO (I'm sorry to say) who does presentations like that and maybe even the entire job, to fulfill his own ego and not for anything else.

The freakin' idiot shoots himself b/c of unsafe gun handling and then wants to continue to show other weapons?!

He's the type of representative that LEOs do not need these days......especially in what was apparently a black community.
