I just wanted to post some pictures of my Pawpaws old Marlin 990 with Bushnell 3x7 scope with bullet compensator. He passed a little over 31 years ago from a massive heart attack and was the last one to shoot it. Weather permitting tomorrow, I will be the first one to shoot it in over 31 years.

I love seeing these guns, guns that someone in the family have handed down. Enjoy your time with pawpaw and his gun. I mean that just like it sounded, I think he will be with you when you shoot it.

Definitely not. He loved that gun. He worked the oil fields out in west Texas and used to pick off coyotes and rattlesnakes, and water moccasins with it.

I agree!:)
I think you'll love it just as much.

shooting for myself and many others is a family tradition that has been passed down for generations. Any firearm that has been passed on, is truely a lifelong gift (I have several as well) and should be cherished as often as possible. Shooting by one's self or gathering with others and reflecting is a beautiful thing and keeps tradition going. We need more of that in this day and age of technology and personal detachment by electronic devices. Good form Sir! Keep it up! and good shootin!

My grandpa is still alive and 82 years old; but he has two German Lugers, a WW1 and a WW2, and a Winchester Model 100 semi-auto 308 with a rare Winchester 8 round magazine. He knows I love that Winchester Model 100; I do have one gun from him already though. It's a Remington Sportsman 12 Auto; basically it's a model 1100 with no engraving. He gave it to me for Christmas when I was a teenager and in 1999, I bought a factory Remington Cantilever fully rifled barrel for it and it is the most ultimate slug gun ever! More accurate than any pump I've ever had.

Even more awesome, the gun has never jammed; and my Dad and I have shot several 100-round sporting clays courses with it, before I set it up into a slug gun. It cycles rounds flawlessly and delivers deadly accuracy. It means a lot to me and I will always cherish it.

Well update range report. Very very sweet shooting gun. My Pawpaw had very good taste in guns. So smooth shooting. It is definitely my favorite. One because it was my Pawpaws, second because man it was sweeet shooting! :D

I like how MrDig put things:

Enjoy the rifle and enjoy the memories it holds. Nice that you and pawpaw enjoyed some range time with it. I have a gun much like that and know the feelings.

It's stuff like this that makes me get emotional. I wouldn't sell my grandpa's old .22 for all the money in the world. Nothin' really special about, just an old Glenfield, but it's the sentiment of it that makes it invaluable.

Good stuff! I recently fixed the Marlin .22 my Grandfather gave to me 25 years ago, shot it, and had good memories of when he was alive.

Great story and a beautiful old rifle. Excellent craftsmanship. I have my grandfather's Arisaka 99 rifle that he brought back from Okinawa. He had never been able to shoot it because they deactivated it by removing the striker before letting him send it back. I found the parts to repair it around 2003. At least he got to shoot it before he passed away in early 2009. I also have his M1 Carbine.
