In October, Driving From Miami to Kalispell Montana. What Firearms to Take?

most of my road trips are with a ruger sr22 or ruger lcr22 handgun. i often find an indoors or outdoors shooting spot to plink as part of my trip’s fun. im practiced and accurate with both rimfire handguns. one 22lr handgun and 1-2 100-round sleeves of cci minimags easily fit in a lockable pistol case, which is easily portable into hotels and as checked air baggage if my car is wrecked on the way. im not stopping near apex predators. with a bigger pistol case i can add a bond arms derringer with an extra centerfire barrel (with a bit of ammo) for more oomph and ammo scrounging along the way.

if two persons are traveling together, then the second piece would be a ruger blackhawk single-action revolver in your favorite centerfire caliber (mine is 357/38/9). if in a restricted state, then a henry 22lr carbine, with a nonresident squirrel hunting license, as rimfire rifles are generally exempt, as are licensed hunters.

i always check handgunlaw.us. i have several states’ ccw permits. i would never stay in super-restricted cities such as chicago, baltimore, boston, nyc, dc. i cannot drive to hawaii.

Kalispell, my home town.
