Incident at Car Wash

Seems like you did about the best you could. As a resident of Maryland carrying is not a legal option, and especially in the baltimore/DC area carwashes are prime targets for several types of bad guys, even worse at the ones that do not have an office. I have to use them occasionally when I have been in the mud and there have been countless times that i have encountered panhandlers in one way shape or form, and have heard of several thefts. I have always informed the carwash office of suspicious types and have called the police when I saw someone beating a change machine with a sledgehammer. the only time I have ever seen the police respond was to question me why I was washing blood out of the bed of my truck that was covered in mud, luckily I had a couple of pictures of the buck that left the blood there and my hunting in maryland pamplet that I got with my tag. I now live in a better area with a large number of hunters and a car wash that is well lit and just down the road from a police station, but I am always on guard due to my previous lessons.

ok he is gone, what does it mean?:neener: yes it would be easy to be over took at a car wash, i always have my glock 45 under my coat, shirt, and try to keep a eye out, i guess it would be best to wash it at home for me,

what does it mean?

Click on the link in CI's post above.

Bottom line from this - we should all keep our guard up anytime we're at a carwash. They do seem like prime targets for scumbags. I know I'll be more aware from now on.

I lived in Tennessee a few years back and was new to my area and I used a car wash that I thought was in a good area; a guy was walking around trying to sell something to people using the car wash...

I was trying to be nice and I kept saying "NO Thank You" over and over...finally I had to give an emphatic "NO, I do not want to buy anything!"
I think he was getting ready to get more aggressive and he just stood there looking at me and then he glanced over my shoulder and walked off...I turned around after I watched him get at least 50 feet from me...fortunately for me it was a police cruiser waiting at the red light...this was before I got into the shooting thing and I didn't even have a pocket knife that day...

Needless to say, I didn't return to that car wash and I got into the habit of using automatic washes whenever possible; I try to be aware of my surroundings and not open myself up to opportunities like that anymore

[where is the line that divides punks from upstanding citizens/QUOTE]

Upstanding citizens don't help themselves into your car, period. Pretty simple line from my position. If he persisted, then so be it, maybe he was legit, however, trust your gut, it's never wrong. Every time I have gone against my gut (never had to with any force scenarios) I have regretted it.

Why do these mopes think that their "problem" is your problem?

Lots of great comments, but I think this is the most valuable contribution to this discussion.

We have created an entitlement society where it's not inconceivable that this "mope" might simply have thought that it's your DUTY to deliver him back to his neglected baby.

Given the scenario based on this idiot's "story", I almost hope that it was some sort of ruse.

Lord help us all.

BetaShooter:
I think you did about as well as possible in that situation. You kept your head and dealt with the problem verbally, which is a heckuva lot better than physical means. It could've gotten a lot uglier...

For the record, what part of town were you in? When I read the story, I pictured one of those car washes on Bandera Rd.

Regards,
Dirty Bob

Dirty Bob,
Thanks for the comments. I'm none the worse for wear; I was a little shaken up for awhile. It could have been much worse.

It was on Bandera Rd! You are a perceptive guy! It was at the newer, "nicer" car wash between Eckhert and Huebner, the one next to Texas Guns. Until this incident, I never considered a car wash to be a place where you're particularly vulnerable.

Wow, that's weird! I know that one! Glad you're OK. All these stories about car washes have caused me to change to the car wash in my driveway at home.

Best wishes,
Dirty Bob
