kludge,

it's cool. you did not come off worg or anything. I did not even think of your post as a slam or anything.

ARperson,

We both applied on Jan 12th. My permit was approved on April 3rd. I asked about hers when I called to check the status and it was not in the system yet. She gave it two weeks and called for the first time and was told it was in the system but not processed. She called a week later and was told that it needed more info and was being mailed back to her.

I think the average wait time is about 11~13 weeks.

When we first applied in Jan she was on the fence about the permit, now since she has gone to the range more it has really bummed her out.

I will keep this updated when we find out what other info is needed.

Well we got her application back in the mail today with the 75 dollar fee. Her application, finger print card were returned as well. The application was approved by the chief of police.

The letter said:

To finish processing we need the following information corrected and the money returned.

On the form attached to the letter they are asking her to complete the supplemental application.

The form is asking:

name
date
US citizen
prohibited from possessing firearms
what type of application she wants
signature.

I am not sure why they are missing this everything is on the orginal application, except for the prohibited from possessing a firearm
looks like we just have to fill it out and pay for it again then wait 12 more weeks.. At least we dont have to go back to the local police dept.

Well my g/f drug her feet in returning the application. I still think it is odd that they wanted to know the extra info. She just got the permit today. all said and done it took her almost 6 months to get it. I am just happy that when they got the return application with the extra info it did not take them another 3 months to process it.

Do not mean to hijack the thread but it seems to fit in with my question so I will post here instead of starting a new thread.

What is the current waiting period for the new Lifetime LCH (or even a standard four year license)? I've read at the ISP website that it could be as long as 12 weeks but I'm hearing rumors that it is now longer.

If you currently have a license you can apply up to six months in advance of the old one expiring. You also have a 30 day grace period after it expires to apply for the new one, and you're covered until the new one comes...

i.e. if you're worried about a license expiring, don't.

Mine took about 3 weeks (it was a four year, I'm due again next year)... I don't know why a lifetime would take any longer than a four-year... the process and paperwork is exactly the same, you just check a different box and pay a different fee.

IC 35-47-2-6
Granting or rejecting initial application; renewals
Sec. 6. (a) Every initial application for any license under this chapter shall be granted or rejected within sixty (60) days after the application is filed.
(b) The period during which an application for the renewal of an existing license may be filed begins one hundred eighty (180) days before the expiration of the existing license. If the application for renewal of an existing license is filed within thirty (30) days of its expiration, the existing license is automatically extended until the application for renewal is passed upon.

WD,

I am not sure if the process is getting longer or shorter. It took us about 11 weeks to get our permits. Really there is not much you can do. Just get the paperwork done and wait. Once your sheriff/city police approves it might be luck of the draw at the state police. My g/f applied the same time I did and both applications were sent to the ISP from the city police at the same time. however mine was processed 2 weeks before hers.

I applied this time last year and got mine in early April.
The renewals are faster.
