Most home owners insurance companies lump our guns into a "sporting goods" grouping, and the limit on that is generally sub $3,000. Just think how many basket balls that is, but when it comes to guns, that can be hit easy in one item.
It can really help you out if something horrid happens where you store your guns. Even in a "fire proof" safe they can get hot enough inside to melt metals, I have seen everything on an AR melt but the barrel and bolt....interesting stuff.
The insurance I have they want just what it is and what value YOU assign to it. You then pay them your money. They have never wanted photos, SN#, or anything along those lines. Never wanted a copy of my FFL, just info like 10-22 valued at forty five cents. This is it.
It is not too out of line, and is offered by my normal home owners insurance. Back when I had a bunch of classic cars it varied, sometimes they wanted photos, other times they send someone out, and others just took my word for it. For what it is worth my normal auto insurance covered the classic cars as well. And it was the same thing, I value this car for this much. I think they know when something is sideways, so if you say your Triumph GT6 is worth seven million they will think you are an idiot....but put it at fifteen thousand sure, they will wright that.
I would bet if you said that 10-22 is worth $3000 they are going to have questions and what to know just where all that money went.
